Taking a road trip is a fun way for your family to spend time together and explore the beautiful country we live in. To help keep expenses down, we like to make our own snacks. These road trip snack ideas are sweet, salty, and satisfying. Whether you are taking a road trip to Cape Cod or you are leaving this beautiful place we call home, don’t forget to pack these delicious road trip snacks.
Having a place in your car to store your road trip snacks is important. For drinks, fruits, and cheese, we like to bring a small cooler. I like the small square coolers with removeable lids, but some people prefer a style with a lid that is attached to the cooler. I also like to use a small tote bag or collapsable picnic basket to corral napkins and food items that do not need to be chilled.
Maple Toasted Almonds are a family favorite. You don’t need any special tools to prepare this recipe, but a small silicone spatula makes it easier to combine the real maple syrup with the almonds and brown sugar.
The sweet and salty combination in these Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Bacon Cookies is amazing. If I saved this cookie recipe for road trips, I’d be living out of my car. Seriously.
Granola is one of my favorite go-to snacks for road trips and eating at home. It’s quick and easy to prepare. The freedom to customize it is endless, too. Try this Simple Homemade Granola recipe the next time you’re looking for a quick snack. If you bring yogurt in your cooler, it’s nice to top it with this simple homemade granola.
In our family, we’re big fans of mini muffins. The smaller mini muffin size lets you grab ’em and go, without leaving a trail of crumbs behind you. You do need a special mini muffin pan, but no other special tools are required. These two bite coffee cake muffins won’t leave you disappointed. I promise.
Because mini muffins are so easy to make, you’ll want to whip up a batch of these Sweet Cream Blueberry Muffins. Having a variety of mini muffins is great for ‘second breakfast’ in the car on long trips. And they’re perfect to enjoy with your afternoon coffee, too!
If muffins aren’t your thing, maybe you prefer donuts?! Check out this recipe for simple baked donuts. You’ll definitely want to buy a special donut pan for these, but you can also bake them in a mini muffin pan if you don’t think you need the donut pan.
I’m not saying you need to make all of these recipes, but having a variety of snacks and treats makes road trips even more fun!
