Who knew that August is National Panini Month?! Not me, but panini’s are one of my favorites. I love making paninis because you can customize the sandwich to your tastebuds.
If you’ve never made a panini, it’s easy. It’s simply a regular sandwich that has been pressed together on a griddle leaving ridges to the bread. The traditional way to prepare a panini is with a panini press or an electric panini maker. I use the electric panini maker.
I love making Turkey Rueben Paninis. I pile rye bread with a great tasting turkey, like Hormel Natural Choice oven roasted deli turkey, plenty of sauerkraut, and a slice or two of swiss cheese. Make sure that your panini maker or grill pan is well-greased and very hot before putting your sandwich down. You don’t want it to stick. Leave it alone for about 4 minutes – the cheese will melt through the panini acting like glue. Yummy!
What’s your favorite panini? Do you use a press or an electric panini maker?
