I have learned a lot about myself over the last few years. I always felt defined by my career, by my employer. I was in a group of fantastic, successful, driven people. I loved it.
And then we moved to Boston and I quit my job.
For the first time in more than a decade, I wasn’t part of a big group that everyone knew. That many people loved. {There were a few haters, too. Though I don’t know how. I mean, who doesn’t love breadsticks?}
Being on my own and not part of that large organization gave me the opportunity to dream. To reach deep inside myself and explore my dreams.
What did I really want to become? What personal goals did I have?
These dreams have been racing around my head since November 2007. The Boy, This Blog, My Shop, are all part of my dreams. These dreams that continue to grow as I continue to nourish them. These dreams that exhaust me and force me to sleep and not to sleep.
I wouldn’t change a thing. Dreams are what keeps you going.
Are you achieving your dreams?
This post was written as part of BlogHer’s NaBloPoMo January 2013 challenge. Today’s prompt was “If you could be given the option to never sleep and also never be tired, would you take it if it meant you’d also never dream again?” Sign ups to participate in this month’s Blog Roll are closed. You can still check out the participating bloggers and the daily prompts. Daily writing prompts can often become a great source of inspiration and encourage you to write about things you haven’t previously explored.

I have the best hubby and kiddos. So yes, I would absolutely say that I’m achieving my dreams. I mean, what more could I ask for! 🙂

I think for the most part I am achieving my dreams. My kids are happy and healthy, I am still crazy about my husband after 23 years. I don’t have a perfect life but I have a very good life. I think as you get older your dreams change. As of today I would say yes I am. 🙂
Emily says
I love that you’re crazy about your husband after 23 years! It seems so rare to see people stay together for such a long time, hooray for you and your husband!
Kat H. says
I so agree, dreams are part of who you are and can help you be better than who you were. They keep you on track and help you grow. I think you would have an existence without them but would you have a life?
Cathy says
Working on it! Made two big steps toward dreams today. Going to keep on stepping until they are achieved. Life is too short to not reach for them.
Emily says
YAY! Keep making those steps!
Krista says
My current dream is to be defined by a career and an employer, but the universe seem to be against me at the moment.
Emily says
Krista, it sounds like you’re not working right now? It’s tough, particularly when you want to be working outside the home and contributing financially. What types of networking opportunities are you taking advantage of? If it your dream to be defined by a career & an employer, have you updated your resume and added all of your skills and experience? What are some unique ways you can market your brand? Let me know if I can help you at all!

My dreams definitely keep me afloat and I’m working on them one small step at a time.
Without dreams, we would all be lost.
