Make This:: Easy DIY Game Day Garland

With the big game just around the corner, it’s time to start planning your game day decor and food! This simple DIY game day garland will have your party guests cheering!

When you’re planning a party, it’s important to think beyond food and drink. I like to make sure we have an ample supply of bath tissue at the ready. I headed to Target to pick up my party supplies, and grabbed the Quilted Northern® Mega Rolls from the bath tissue aisle.

We choose Quilted Northern Ultra Plush® Mega Rolls because they last and last so you can change the roll less often during the Big Game. There’s nothing worse than fumbling around trying to replace a roll. Your house will be full to celebrate, and you want to keep your guest space perfect and put together. Quilted Northern Mega Rolls mean a fuller roll and less roll changes (because no one wants their guest to experience a bath tissue run out!) Knowing my bathroom is well stocked, I can get busy creating my DIY game day garland. Decorating for parties is such a fun way to get everyone in the spirit.

For this game day garland, I decided to use a pennant shape for the background and coordinating peel and stick letters, and two colors of ribbon. Most of the supplies were from my craft stash, which is overflowing because of many trips to Target!

To create your own pennant shape background, choose a heavy cardstock or scrapbooking paper and cut them into isoceles triangles. (Don’t worry, I had to google isoceles, too!) I used three different papers to add more visual appeal to the game day garland.

Grab your hole punch and punch two holes into either side of the shortest end of the triangle. This is where you’ll thread your ribbon.

Now it’s time to add your phrase to the garland. Phrases like “WIN THE LAST GAME” and “EVERY INCH COUNTS” and “GUARD THE YARD” are fun for big game celebrations. That’s the great thing about a DIY game day football garland, you can add any phrase that is meaningful to you.

I chose peel and stick letters because they’re affordable and I happened to have them on hand from another project. Once I decided on my “GAME DAY” phrase, I simply stuck the letters onto the triangles.

My next step was to thread the ribbon through the triangles. I used red and blue ribbon to add another layer of color to my game day garland.

Once the ribbon was threaded through the punched holes, I was ready to hang the football garland up.

TADA! This quick project takes about ten minutes – including clean up. I love an easy decorating project, especially when I’m getting ready to host a big game day party. Now that my game day decor is complete, it’s time to work on planning my big game menu!
