Menu planning AND sticking to a budget is an adventure. Last week’s menu plan was a hit – I do want to mention that The Texan cooked dinner on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday AND Friday. If you’re looking for some help in the kitchen from your husbands, maybe try adding those items to your menu plan?
Because of a great menu plan, we stuck to it and that means we’ve kept our budget in check. Last week, I spent an additional $111.80 on groceries, bringing our monthly total to $398.25. Not too bad, could be better. We have $321.14 remaining in our food budget with 12 days to go. I should mention that our refrigerator is pretty bare right now. But that is a good thing; because it means we’re eating what we have and not being wasteful.
Monday – Garlic baked chicken, rice, and salad
Tuesday – YOYO. We’re eating leftovers tonight. Whatever is in the refrigerator is what’s for dinner tonight!
Wednesday – Date night! The Texan and I are going to see A Christmas Story, The Musical and The Boy is going hang with his grandparents.
Thursday – Roasted Chicken, baked potatoes, and salad
Friday – Homemade Pizza.
Saturday – Chicken Pot Pie (using the leftover chicken from Thursday). I’ve been craving artichoke and spinach dip lately, maybe I’ll make that to enjoy while we’re watching college football in the afternoon.
Sunday – Turkey Reubens with sweet potato fries
With the rising cost of food, do you find yourself paying closer attention to your food budget? How much does your family spend per month?
