As a mom, I feel a certain responsibility to my family to keep our home free of germs and bacteria. Our home was hit by the nasty flu bug this winter, and I want to do my best to ensure we’re healthy this spring. I’m adopting a healthier overall lifestyle for my family instead of just merely cleaning out our closets and washing our windows. LYSOL recently launched the concept of Healthing – a new idea centered on keeping families as healthy as possible, by looking beyond just cleaning and ensuring that the proper steps are taken to stay well. Have you heard of it?
Healthing is an extension of the LYSOL brand and it’s Mission for Health, the motivation behind the creation of their products that are centered on killing 99.9 percent of germs and providing solutions for the home that help promote good hygiene and disinfection.
While cleaning the surfaces in your home is important, killing germs on the most commonly used surfaces in your home lowers the risk of spreading bacteria and viruses between family members. Instead of just picking papers up off of your counter, take the extra time to wash the counter well. Pay close attention to cleaning door knobs, remote controls, and cell phones – those are a few of the most touched items in your home. Don’t forget to disinfect places that you don’t see or think about often, like the cabinet handles, refrigerator door handles or sink drains.
As I get ready to map out my spring cleaning plans, I know that I’ll be enlisting help from The Texan and The Boy. We have windows to wash, tables to dust, and cabinets to wipe down. I want us to have a great start to the new season. No germs are going to get my family this Spring!
As part of your daily routine, encourage your children to wash their hands frequently, using soap and warm water. Have toddlers say the alphabet or sing “Happy Birthday” while washing, this will ensure they wash long enough to remove bacteria and germs from their hands. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), hand washing is the single most important thing you can do to prevent illness.
To help spread the word about Healthing, LYSOL and partnered with the fabulous Giuliana Rancic to visit YMCAs in select markets across the country to demonstrate Healthing in action. At each YMCA location they visit, LYSOL will provide attendees with hands-on education about the products and steps required to practice improved hygiene habits in their own home, while making the idea fun and relatable to kids. LYSOL will also provide educational information and disinfecting products to the local YMCAs, along with the donation of a one-year membership to a deserving family.
You can learn more about the LYSOL Healthing campaign on their website, Facebook page, or by reading the Healthing Guidebook.
If healthing can change the way you think about protecting your family from germs and bacteria, imagine what it can do for your community. We are spreading the word about healthing in schools, stores, and homes across the nation.

So you’re eco-friendly and you want to spray a bunch of chemicals in the air. Enjoy your blood money.

I’m sorry you feel that I am going to “spray a bunch of chemicals in the air”, no where in the content of this article did I mention spraying anything. The message in this article was to encourage others to prevent the spread of germs and bacteria. I hope you will read it again, the message that Lysol is trying to convey with their Healthing campaign is a good thing.
