Yesterday, I was driving to my favorite day spa to see my favorite gal so she could tame my wild eyebrows. The sun was streaming into my sunroof and Toby Keith was singing “Made in America” from the back seat. (Well, HE wasn’t really in the backseat, but that’s where the music was coming from. You know what I meant, right?)
The speed limit on the road is 30, but there was a bit of traffic so I was going slower. As I approached this great little market that sells yummy sandwiches and other delightful nibbles like housemade brownies and whoopie pies, I noticed a shiny silver Toyota pick up truck. It caught my eye because it was so clean and the sun was glistening off of it. The truck was behind a navy blue Saab. (That could be why I noticed the truck, I have a major crush on Saab. But, now that the company has been dissolved, I’ll never own one. Okay, back to the story.) The navy blue Saab pulled out of the parking lot, making a right hand turn into my lane. Rather than proceeding forward, the driver decided to brake.
The voice in my head said “Apply Brakes Now”
I listened.
And, from the corner of my eye I saw the grill of the shiny silver Toyota. I swerved into the (empty) opposite lane and the shiny silver Toyota NARROWLY missed hitting ME. My heart was leaping and jumping and racing. I thought I might throw up. My hands started shaking. This all happened in a split second.
When I looked toward the shiny silver Toyota, the driver stuck his middle finger up at me.
His reaction caused my heart to leap a bit more than the near miss that I had just experienced.
Have you ever been nearly hit while driving? What other things make your heart leap?

I was on vacay with my family in San Destin Florida, we were in the water in the shallow end when we saw a shark swimming near us. All I could remember was holding tighter to my daughter (5 y/o) and running for our lives. That made my heart jump out of its sockets – emscout9 at Hotmail dot com
