How do you relax? I find Pinterest and Facebook to be very relaxing. Though both are related to my work on this blog. Since being laid off by my former best friend two years ago and starting this blog, I find it hard to pull myself away from some aspect of this new “work” that I created.
Granted, this is my part-time job, and I don’t always get paid. I still find myself struggling to not check for new emails (because I’ve turned off the notification feature on my iPhone) while I’m preparing dinner. If I had an iPhone back when I was a corporate gal, forget about it. I’d never have a moment where I was completing disconnected.
I am happy when I am working, but I can be relaxing and working at the same time. That is the beauty of doing something that you love. I love creating content for this blog, especially fun recipes like my Basic Brownies and the Santa’s Key Christmas Craft.
Are you happier when you’re working or when you’re relaxing?

I am happier when I am relaxing! I don’t think that I do it enough. By the way – the title of your blog made me laugh out loud. I totally feel that nap time is MY time, although my children may disagree with that 🙂

I browse the internet, read or listen to music when I want to relax. I try to make sure to take at least 15 minutes for myself each day but I will admit there are many days when that is just not possible.

I went from a manager working 45-50 hrs a week to working part time at a gas station. It was kinda hard at first because I am a busy body and our gas station is in a realllly small town. I would seriously be on my hands and knees scrubbing floors just to keep busy. I’ve learned to mellow out quite a bit. Pinterest is my favorite thing ever. It helps me relax. I love crafts so I get so many ideas. I also like entering giveaways. For some odd reason it relaxes me after a long day at work. Those are the things that help me relax

I love reading or surfing the net, but I find that I’m happier when I’ve been working. I think it’s because when I’m done, I can see the accomplishment, while after reading or surfing, I sometimes feel like I just wasted time. Yet I find myself doing those things rather than working … go figure …
Pam says
Thanks for sharing this article. I am working on finding something that I really enjoy that is relaxing aside from reading and eating. I’m still working on this, but appreciate your suggestions.
Wendy Kroy says
I find that like most things in life, the key is balance. Too much play and not enough work makes one “rusty,” and too much work is not good for the soul.

I am really hoping to turn blogging into a part time job… I really want to save for a house. Any tips would be welcome

I know what you mean about loving your job. When I am at work I love it. It’s so nice having a job that you enjoy going to every day. But when I am home, I love surfing the web. Sometimes you can just loose yourself in all the great things going on in the world.
debra pearlstein says
I need both in my life. When I am inspired, I want to work or have energy. When I am worn out, I am happy relaxing! Balance is key.

I’m most relaxed while reading. My mind has a hard time shutting off, so I do find the computer to be relaxing to my brain. I have only recently started entering giveaways, which I’m finding has become quite addicting! I’m not sure yet if I find them relaxing or stressful-perhaps a little of both? thanks!

I’m happier when I’m working — I get a rush from the feeling of getting things done, and I am able to enjoy my downtime only if I feel that I’ve earned it through work.

I am happier when I’m relaxing. I have Osteoarthritis and Fibromyalgia and I work full time. Pain is a everyday thing for me. If I didn’t have to work and could stay home and relax I would be happy. I think my quality of life would improve drastically.

to be honest, I like to keep busy-albeit my job is seasonal so I keep very busy for part of the year and the rest of the year I end up busy around the house doing my Spring cleaning, blogging and organizing things here. I am lucky enough to have a good balance of working and relaxing after a rough season.
Cindi Decker says
I would have to say I’m happier when I’m relaxing. I relax by reading, knitting or reading Facebook or Pinterest.
Tracy Allen says
I am much more relaxed when I’m working – but only now that I have a job that I control. I have run an eBay store for several years now and I am almost always working. However, the idea that I am in total control of the work – when where and what – keeps me very relaxed. Having nothing to do or being tied to a job controlled by others gives me anxiety.
Michelle Tucker says
I’m much happier not working now. I relax by entering giveaways and doing things I enjoy. My job the last 4 years up until last month was a very stressful one.
cathy henatyszen says
it’s nice to have a combination of both in your life… sometimes too much of one or the other is not too good for us mentally or physically.
hope everyone had a great Christmas!!!
Sandy VanHoey says
I’m not a person who can relax. For my entire life, I have to be busy doing something. Even if I’m watching tv, I will jump up to dust or see something I need to do. I guess finding time to relax just isn’t for me at all although it sounds so inviting.
Terri Moore says
I’m happier being a stay at home Mom. I have the time to invest in my family both working and relaxing. I love Pinterest too and have found some wonderful ideas and find it very inspiring. Facebook helps keep me connected with family and friends.

Since I’m retired, every day is Sunday and a day for relaxing. I enjoy surfing the web…scouting out giveaways like this one. I also enjoy reading and entering author’s contests.
Amanda Sakovitz says
Its really hard for me to relax. I’m always online whether its on my laptop or phone. I think it is really important though to spend time “unplugged”. There definitely is a balance to be found.
aimee lee says
I relax by entering giveaways online 🙂 I enjoy relaxing more than working, but it is satisfying when I get a lot done at work too.
Hannah C says
It is truly nice to do something that you love and I’m glad you enjoy doing this. You have a wonderful blog. I too hope to work where I feel relaxed as well. I’m not working now so I’d be happier if I was working just because I know that’s more productive than what I’m doing. I do feel happy when relaxing and doing things like yoga.
Sacha Schroeder says
I am very inspired to find a job that I love. Thank you!
A. Anderson says
It’s hard to say which one these days. When you are trying to relax a child pops up and doesn’t allow you to and when your at work the phone doesn’t stop ringing. Sometimes you have to put all gadgets away and take your self away as well and lock the bathroom door and just take a nice hot bath that sometimes helps me.
Liz Ticona says
I’m happier when I’m working 🙂 When i’m relaxing I’m thinking of all the things i could be accomplishing so I can never relax all the way, if i’m working I can sneak a break or two to recharge and that’s how i’m happiest 🙂
sherry b says
I do yoga to relax, but enjoy working more now that I only work a few hours a week.
Jan says
I used to be happy when I was working, but I was diagnosed with a disability a few years ago and had to stop working. Stress and fatigue are two triggers of my disability so actually I have to relax more and get more sleep. I know it sounds dumb, but I have a hard time relaxing and sleeping so it’s a chore for me to do either. I guess now I’d say I’m happier when I relax as I know that it’s something that will keep me from relapsing into a full blown attack.
Sylvia Ortiz says
After working for my first job for 21 years, I was laid off due to the economy. I found it very hard adjusting not being able to contribute to our household. I then sought the internet for ways to make money. I was successful in survey entries, in which I was rewarded cash and/or free samples. So, I find it more “relaxing” working/entering giveaways, as I am able to provide (whether it be cash or products) for my family once again.
Charlotte Raynor says
I mainly relax by going online. I usually work online by writing articles for online companies. When I want to relax, I don’t write and I enter giveaways, play games or just converse with my friends on Facebook.

I relax by watching tv. I love it
Leslie Galloway says
I’m happier when I’m relaxing, but I’m happier at the end of the day if I’ve been working. I’d love to have a blog, but I just can’t get it all together. I do love enjoy reading all my faves though! 🙂
