Do you recall a few weeks ago when I mentioned that the Polar Express was coming to Cape Cod? For the first time on Cape Cod, area families can experience the magic of a journey to the “North Pole” on the official Warner Brothers licensed .
We arrived at the train station 30 minutes before our scheduled 6pm departure. After paying the $5 to park in their lot, we entered the nearly empty station. I checked in a will call and we were immediately provided with our tickets. The agent handed The Boy a wrapped gift, he was so excited to receive a present! I offered for him to open it, but he wanted to wait until we were on the train.
It was a fairly cool night, but we opted to wait outside as the station was filling with other riders and it was becoming quite warm. The Boy didn’t mind, he grabbed his present under his arm and out the door we went.
The train pulled into the station a short time later. It’s whistle blowing and children cheering!
We boarded the train and made our way to our seats. It’s been a long time since I’ve been on a train, the extended leg room was nice! I’d forgotten you get more room on a train than an airplane. The Texan and The Boy sat next to one another for the ride to the North Pole.
Once we departed the train station, the chefs came through singing Christmas carols. They were a bit off key, but tried their best to sign along with the music playing in the background. A few minutes later we were provided with hot chocolate and cookies. The hot chocolate was a bit cool for The Texan and me, but perfect for toddlers – The Boy enjoyed it and was pleased to hold his covered paper cup himself.
The conductor came by and punched our tickets!
During our trip to the North Pole, as we listened to a reading from the book, we passed several homes that were decorated in holiday lights. It was a beautiful sight. We arrived at the North Pole 30 minutes after departing the station, and picked up Santa and a few of his elves. The North Pole station was decorated in a beautiful display of lights. I looked for Mrs. Claus, but she must’ve been baking cookies in her kitchen!
As we headed back to the station, The Boy decided to {finally!} open his gift.
Much to his delight it was a copy of The Polar Express book!
Shortly after opening the book, Santa made his way into our car. He sat with each child on board the train and talked with them about Christmas and their wish lists. To keep the other children interested – and in their seats – his elves spent time with the children that were patiently waiting.
The Boy could hardly wait to tell Santa that he wants “a tractor that picks things up” for Christmas!
Our family’s experience on the Polar Express on Cape Cod’s Railroad was magical. You can learn more about the experience and . Hurry – trains are departing for the North Pole now through December 30, you don’t want to miss it! Be sure to follow them on Facebook and Twitter!
