We undecorated our Christmas tree last weekend. Honestly, I could not wait to take it down. I'd grown tired of turning on the lights. Grown tired of watering it. Growing tired of it. Period.
The ornaments were removed and carefully wrapped and boxed for next year. One by one. For the first time, I broke one of the ornaments. That is funny to me now because yesterday, my mother stopped by and told me that each year she breaks an ornament either decorating or undecorating! Like mother, like daughter!
During the undecorating, we decided that we would (finally!) get rid of our standard lights and purchase LED lights for the 2011 tree!! I’m excited about the environment benefits and lower electric bill that will come next year! This decision was influenced by my Healthy Theme for 2011!
My husband took the tree outside and laid it to rest next to our trash bin. It will lie there until our fantastic trash service comes to haul it to the recycling center. I’ve heard that our tree may help out in the protection of the barrier beaches. It is comforting to know that although I’d grown tired of it, it will contribute to great memories for an unsuspecting family this summer at the beach.
In our living room, there were needles everywhere. Every year I am in awe of the amount of needles shed and the amount which remain on the tree. This year was no exception. Now that my house is back to “normal” I’m reminded that although the holiday season is over, I’ll probably be sucking up needles until August!
