Blogging has been such a wonderful experience for me. I love that I am able to write about whatever I want, whenever I want. Unfortunately, there are times when I find it difficult to get the post started. It’s on those occasions that I follow these tips for starting a blog post:
- Create an outline – Remind you of high school and college?! Outlining your blog post is a wonderful way to organize your ideas and tape into your creativity.
- Just write – Start writing about anything. Writing about the dust in the corner or the dishes in the sink may help to get your creative juices flowing.
- Begin with the end in mind – If you’ve already thought of a great closing paragraph, go ahead and write it FIRST. There is no rule that says you can’t!
How do you start your blog posts?
What what NaBloPoMo is all about? NaBloPoMo, created by the brilliant minds at BlogHer, is a month long blogging challenge to encourage you to write daily about a specific prompt. Today’s prompt was “How do you jump into starting a new blog post?” Although sign ups to participate in this month’s Blog Roll have closed, the daily prompts are available here.

haha! I posted that I don’t use outlines. I’m horrible! Or maybe just lazy…. great tips!

Interesting thoughts on this. I follow the second tip—-type aimlessly until I feel like I’ve said what needed to be said.

I use the “just write” a lot. It’s sometimes hard for me to get started too.

Great tips Emily! Often I get little brainstorms all day long. Lately I have been carrying around a small lined notebook so that I can quickly jot down the idea and come back to it…. one idea leads to another and another and who knows where you end up! Blogging has truly encouraged people, especially our generation to start writing again, which I love to see!

I like the idea about the notebook! Though with all the other stuff I lug around, I probably wouldn’t be able to find it before I forgot the idea. Maybe I’ll try using the Notepad on my Phone more. I did that for a while, then somehow got away from it.
