Happy Thursday lovelies!
Do you follow me on Instagram? What? You’re not? Okay, go do it. I’ll wait here. I have coffee.
See, that was easy, wasn’t it?
Now, if you were following me on Instagram over the weekend, you saw the super cute update we gave to our toddler adirondack chair.
My mom purchased the chair for $10 two years ago at a local craft fair. It was unfinished and boring. We knew that it would be perfect in our yard after a quick coat of paint. Last spring, I painted it turquoise. It was a great color and really popped in the beautiful Cape Cod sunlight.
The thing about Cape Cod is the salty air. It eats paint the same way I eat popcorn. Fast. When we were bringing out our lawn furniture for the season, I knew it was time to repaint the chair and wanted to do something fun.
I enlisted The Texan’s help with the sanding the old paint off of the chair. The Boy wanted in on the action, too! Doesn’t he look cute in his dusk mask?
I hate dust.
Once the sanding was done, I realized that I FORGOT to take a PHOTO of the before chair! UGH! But you can imagine what turquoise chipped paint looks like on a chair, right?
The Texan and The Boy went to our local home improvement store to grab a can of Rustoleum Navy Blue spray paint. While they were doing that. I was trying to find the perfect symbol for the chair. And then it hit me, an anchor!
I found this cute anchor in the Silhouette online store.
I quickly cut the anchor using my Silhouette Cameo electronic cutter and Silhouette red vinyl. If you don’t have an electronic cutter, print your design onto paper, trace it onto the vinyl and cut using a razor blade or Exacto Knife. Be careful, you don’t want to cut your hand!
The Texan sprayed the chair while I was inside working with the vinyl.
And he sprayed it some more
And some more
The chair was thirsty, it took nearly the entire can of spray paint to get an even, bright color!
While the paint dried, The Boy enjoyed a quick picnic lunch.
I had a delicious Smoothie with Kale. I love those things. A lot. They’re excellent!
Once the chair was dry, I applied the red vinyl decal. The vinyl was very thin and a bit difficult to work with, but I love how it turned out.
Happy chair. Happy kid. Happy parents.
This affordable craft cost less about $18, including the chair!

This is the cutest chair ever! I have two unfinished adirondack chairs in my garage, and that I have been trying to decide what to do with! I live at the beach so this would be a perfect idea! I do not have a Silhouette, but can I still have access to the anchor?
Thanks!
Jeni

Hi Jeni,
Thanks so much for stopping by! You can download the Silhouette software and purchase the anchor from their design studio. Most designs are .99! From the software, there is an option to “send to printer”. Be sure to make the lines a bit more bold, so they’ll print out enough for you to see them!
Good luck, and I’d love to see photos!
Best,
Emily

He loves it! Comments on it every time we walk by it, too. It’s so rewarding to create something that another person loves so much!

Thank you! I’m thinking of sprucing up a few of our “grown up” chairs.

I love it! That’s such a cute idea.
i think for a girl a cute idea might be a pink or pastel painted chair with the outline of a bunny or something cuddly like that.

Or perhaps a whale to keep with the nautical theme. That would be very cute for girl/boy twins! One anchor and one whale.
