Children were first introduced to pat the bunny in 1940. It is considered to be the original look and feel book. I can recall Dorothy Kunhardt’s book being on my bookshelf as a child, and I am excited to share it with The Boy as well. Originally, it incorporated everyday activities like seeing your reflection in a mirror, smelling the flowers and feeling Daddy’s scratchy face to encourage interactivity and sensory stimulation. Pat the bunny continues to inspire togetherness and creates beautiful early memories between caregiver and child by introducing baby to new experiences like patting Bunny’s fur or putting a finger through Mommy’s ring.

One of my hopes for The Boy is that he shares my love of books. As an infant encouraged him to interact with look and feel books, such as pat the bunny. Now that he is a toddler, he reaches for books regularly and asks for them when we are shopping instead of toys. The Boy has memorized a few of his books and will “read” them to me and The Texan before bed each night. It’s so sweet and lets me know that I am doing a great job fostering a love of reading with The Boy.
