The weekend before last, we took a trip to a local pumpkin patch to select THE pumpkin. You know, the one that makes pumpkin carving easy. It’s perfectly shaped, has just the right color, and the stem is still intact. Those are hard to find, unless you grow them on your own.
The Boy searched, and search, and searched.
Finally putting THE one into the wagon.
We placed it outside by the front door when we got home. It wasn’t quite time to carve it yet, so we told The Boy it needed to adjust to our home. Sort of like the Christmas tree. Nothing like confusing your kid, and squishing all of the holidays together!
Cleaning out the pumpkin will not make The Boy’s list of favorite things to do. He commented on how slimy it was and how cold it was. We were able to easily clean the seeds out of the pumpkin, leaving enough of a wall to still carve the pumpkin.

The Texan used the template provided in our Pumpkin Masters kit to transfer the outline of the ghost onto the pumpkin. Pumpkin Masters kits are available at your local grocery, drug, or craft store, and nationally at Target and Walmart. The Texan carved the design and said that it was easier and safer than carving with our kitchen knives. I’ve mentioned previously that Halloween is his holiday, and I let him do it all. The house is decorated and we have a gorgeous pumpkin!

Doesn’t it look spooky outside? Inside our Pumpkin Masters Kit was a great LED light that changes color from green to orange.

Awesome, right?

There was also a great LED Strobe light, too. I had a tough time photographing that one in action. Mmmm, I wonder why?!

One kit that was included that we haven’t used {yet} is the Kid’s Kit. I love that it has scary eyes that you can attach to a pumpkin. We won’t carve it or scrape out the insides. Instead, we’ll use this kit to decorate a sugar pumpkin keeping the pumpkin whole, just adding the eyes and tracing a design template with the included crayon.

Very impressive carving! I like the idea of putting a strobe light inside the pumpkin, that must look cool
The strobe lights are fun – I’m having a hard time choosing which light to turn on each night!
Cute! I have never seen the Green LED lights but I will have to check them out. They look awesome. We are getting pumpkins this weekend to carve. Can’t wait!
Happy Carving! Be sure to check your local retailer for a Pumpkin Masters Kit!
I need some of these lights, that is an awesome idea!!!
The lights were a huge hit!
The lights were a huge hit!
The pumpkin looks fantastic! You should congratulate your husband & son on a job well done!
I may never hear the end of it if I do that!
Hey Emily! I am so happy your link on Twitter got my attention! This was so coll to see. I usually just do the basics you know triangle eyes well you know! So cool how you go to the pumpkin patch and find the right one .. I really enjoyed your post. Thanks for sharing.. Chery :))
Wow! so nice and cute. Love it..
The strobe light is so cool!
And your kids – too cute!
Good job on the pumpkin! We bought the plastic carvable ones from Michaels this year to see if the kids could do them more themselves. They turned out cute, but still hard to carve.
I’ll pass a long the praise to my husband! We also purchased a plastic one this year, my husband carved it with a dremmel. He mentioned that it was messy and a bit tough to do. At least we’ll have that one next year!
Oh yeah a dremel would’ve been good. I didn’t realize until we were doing all three in the living room how much “stuff” would fall off all over the floor and me.
