When I think back to my childhood, I have so many happy memories. Choosing my favorite childhood memory is much too hard for me.
I can recall camping with my parents in New Hampshire – swimming in a lake, searching for The Lost River, and eating cereal out of a tiny little box.
We’d spend our summer in the water – a local pond was host to years of swimming lessons and weekend trips to the National Seashore were the norm.
Winter months were spent at the gym and the skating rink – I was a competitive gymnast and figure stater. At age 10, I gave up gymnastics to focus on figure skating. Maintaining both training schedules – and school work – was just too much for me {and too much for my parent’s wallets!}.
I remember trips to Disney World, Pennsylvania, Key West, and the Caribbean.
One vivid memory is of a pair of purple pants that I had when I was seven. I wore them so often, basically every day. Every time I heard the washing machine going, I would toss them in for a spin. One spring day while playing in our yard, my dad said “If you wear those pants one more time, they’re going in the trash.” Guess where those pants ended up the following evening?! While it may sound cruel, it was a great example of sticking to what you say as a parent. My dad was great at that. In my pre-teen years, I went through a “slam-the-bedroom-door” phase. My dad was true to his words again. After telling me “if you slam your bedroom door one more time, I’ll take it off the hinges.” Yep, I lost my door for a week.
Thinking back on my childhood has been fun – I’ve laughed at many of the things that I remember. What is your favorite childhood memory?

It is great to look back on childhood memories! I love that your father would stick to his “threats.” That is something that my sister has trouble with with her daughter and it can really cause issues.

I was horrified when he took my bedroom door off! I didn’t challenge him after that!

It’s always fun to remember childhood memories! We live in NH now, and I can’t wait to explore the area and see some of the places you mentioned 🙂
