Do you have a child starting kindergarten this year? The Boy will be a full-fledged big kid on Tuesday, September 2. He’ll be 1874 days old on his first day of Kindergarten. I wonder, is that too young? Just the right age? Either way, he’s going. Whether I am ready or not.
I know that I’m not alone, that my son isn’t the first child to head off into the real world. More importantly, I know that I am not the only mom to send her baby to Kindergarten this year. That’s why I decided to create this back to school survival kit for moms. While it’s designed as a distraction for Kindergarten moms, this would be a great gift for moms of kids of all ages.
To create a back to school survival kit, I gathered items that would be not only relaxing and distracting, but would also serve a purpose. Perfect things to include are a fun new lip color, tissues for drying those tears, a small sampling of my favorite tea, a collection of fruit and nut bars because certainly breakfast for mom will have been forgotten on the first day of school, an inspiring book, and a cute new clutch to stuff it all into.
This summer, I’ve been swooning over these great lip colors, the color goes on effortlessly and has great staying power. Perfect for kissing your baby goodbye at the classroom door. Choke back those tears, Mom. You can do this. You can make it to the car without crying.
Once you close the door, let those tears flow because you’ve got a package of tissues at the ready. Know that today you’re saying goodbye to your baby; but hello to a new exciting chapter in his life. You’ve done your best these last 1874 or so days; he’s ready.
It’s time to start focusing on yourself. I mean really focusing on yourself. From getting more exercise, to drinking more water, to chasing your dreams, and eating better. That’s where these delicious Taste of Nature Fruit and Nut bars come in. There are six mouth-watering flavors to choose from: Brazilian Nut Festival, California Almond Valley, Quebec Cranberry Carnival, Canadian Maple Forest, Himalayan Goji Summit, and Persian Pomegranate Garden. They’re packed with real ingredients so they taste good! You can find them at Pemberton Farms, Dave’s Marketplace, and other fine retailers.
Let’s talk a bit more about this bars, shall we? They’re affordable, at just $1.99 a bar, they’re great for breakfast or a mid-day snack.
While my primary job for nearly 2000 days has been to care and teach The Boy, it hasn’t come with underhanded comments. After reading Thrive, I feel inspired to live my life on my own terms. I don’t need to find a “real job” to fit the mold that others have for me. I am carving my own path, focusing on living my life in an authentic and fulfilling way for me.
I hope that by passing this back to school survival kit along to a fellow mom, that she’ll feel confident in her choices. That she’ll know she IS doing a great job. That it IS okay to find her own place to stand. That she CAN thrive and live her life as she sees fit.
One important chapter of her life has closed every so slightly, but there is still more, so much more, to do, to be, to see!

I’m in the same boat! Kindergarten starts next Thursday for my oldest. I am so excited, but I’m a little sad to let her go. Such a big girl!
Emily says
Time passes so quickly; it’s hard to believe. We had a wonderful time at a back-to-school BBQ last night, the wonderful community is making it a bit easier for me to let him go. But, we shall see how I do on Tuesday! Good luck to you next week, too.

I need something like this to keep my patient (and not starving) while waiting in the forever long carpool lane!

That’s such a great survival kit! And my oldest turns 7 this weekend, and I still think he’s too little to be learning all the stuff he’s learning! They just grow up way too fast!

This sounds so good and perfect! I need to make one for me!

Great ideas! I bet back to school is just as tiring for moms as it is for kids so these are great ideas!

I definitely need books in my survival kit. I have to wait an hour everyday to get my daughter from school. That is how crazy the pickup line is, ugh.
Emily says
WOW! An hour wait for pick up. That sounds outrageous! Hopefully, they’ll implement a new systems that is more efficient soon.
Melissa @ This Girl's Life Blog says
The system is actually really efficient but everybody and their mama drives
their kids to school so if you don’t go early then your child is the one
waiting for you to get up to the front of the line.
Emily says
My son’s summer camp had an hour wait for pick up. I wanted to pull out my hair! The second week, they switched to a walkie-talkie system and had 5 “stations” where you’d pick up from. Upon arrival, you gave your child’s name, then they radioed to the staff and told you which station to drive to. It knocked the wait time down to 10 minutes.
I’m so thankful that his school is small; it takes me 20 minutes to drive there, but there is no wait for pick up!
I hope you have a lot of books on your GoodReads list! I just started The Underground Girls of Kabul. So good!

That system is how this school works for the most part. We have numbers that cordinate with our kids on a hanger that goes in our cars. Then there are 8 spots that the cars pull up to and they call out the kids names over the loud speaker and they go to the numbered spots. Once they get going after school it goes smoothly but there are just so many people that the later you arrive the further you are back and the longer it takes. My husband wants our daughter to ride the bus but I’m so reluctant about that. Although with all of these parents picking up i’m beginning to wonder if anyone is even on the bus. haha
