Our sense of smell is one of our strongest senses. We are easily transported back into those special times with the smell of something familiar. The smell of cinnamon reminds me of Christmas, my mother would always have a pot of cinnamon sticks simmering on our stove. It’s funny, that I immediately think of the Christmas where I ate an entire box of chocolate covered cherries that were supposed to be a gift for my great-grandfather. I stuck the empty box back in the refrigerator. It goes without saying that my mother was not pleased, and that I haven’t eaten a chocolate covered cherry since then!
I am sure that your family has great holiday memories too! This year, although my mother and I will be separated by 2500 miles, we’ll still laugh about that one Christmas long, long ago.
