As you may know, The Texan coaches rugby. He’s coached his team to the divisional championships two consecutive years – and they won both years! Not bad for a team that is only two years old! We love rugby and one day hope to see The Boy excel in the sport. For now, there is only youth soccer in our area. If The Texan wants to coach that, he’s going to need to get his hands on some free soccer drills.
Rugby is nothing at all like soccer. The only similarities that the sports share are that both are played on grass with a ball! Rugby is similar to the football that is played in the United States. In fact, I think that’s where the idea for football originated. (Don’t hold me to that one, I’m not 100% certain!)
It’s a rough sport, but when played properly is much safer than football. The padding that football players wear gives them a false sense of security. Football players make dangerous hits and take unnecessary risks. Rugby players don’t have the luxury to take unnecessary risks. Each play is well thought out and executed.
You could say that rugby is a thinking man’s game.
What sports do you play that you’d like your children to play?
