Now that we’re a few weeks into the new year [hello 2016!], I thought I would share a few practical tips for a happy and healthy new year.
I’m not a fan of making resolutions, those are often broken. Making you feel unhappy. Which isn’t the goal! Shifting your mindset slightly and making small changes to certain behaviors can lead to a happy and healthy new year. It’s easy!
1| Get Moving. Most of us have goals for our health. We want to live long and enjoy each day. One goal that I have is moving at least 10,000 steps every day. Start with short 20 minute walks in your neighborhood and increase the time in 10 minute increments each week. You’ll be walking further and faster in no time! Another simple way to add a few steps to you day is to park your car as far away from the door as safely possible. The next time you head out to shop, look for a parking space that is away from the door.
2| Talk About It. When you have a goal to get healthy, tell your friends. Tell your family. The more you talk about it, you’re more likely to stick to that goal!
3| Make healthy breakfast choices. “Did you eat breakfast?” “Remember to eat before you leave!” We’ve all heard how important it is to eat breakfast every day. Your body has been fasting for hours, it’s important to break that fast with foods that are good for your body. Beginning on January 18, in McDonald’s restaurants in eastern New England, you can choose chicken sausage as the protein on your favorite breakfast sandwich and breakfast platters.
The new chicken sausage patty contains 5 grams of fat and 80 calories. The chicken sausage is an awesome addition to one customer favorite, the Sausage McMuffin with Egg – a warm, toasted buttered English muffin made with wholesome chicken sausage, a slice of American cheese and a freshly cracked Grade A egg.
4| Drink More Water. I’ve read that you should aim to drink between half an ounce and an ounce of water for each pound that you weigh, every day. If you’re very active, you need to drink more to stay hydrated. For example, if you weigh 160 pounds, you need to drink 80 ounces of water.
The chicken sausage looks delicious! Can’t wait to try it!
This is great! Busy moms tend to forget about taking care of themselves, I know I do! Great to see McDonald’s start to make these steps! I had no idea about the new sausage choice there.
