One of my goals this year for the blog is to grow my local presence. I have thought about a million ways that I could do it, and there is one way that I keep going back to: local marketing.
I was involved in local marketing during my corporate life. It was one aspect of the job that I enjoyed very much. It’s always fun visiting local places and chatting about something that you are passionate about. These days, I don’t have as much time to make face-to-face visits, so I’ll be turning to technology to help me with those visits.
Lately, I’ve been paying closer attention to my SEO (when I remember!) and I’ve seen an increase in local visits to the blog. YAY! I’m excited to see what the next few months will bring for the blog in terms of local visits. It may be necessary for me to get help from an expert in local search marketing, and I will cross that bridge when I come to it.
One thing that I have noticed about Cape Cod – and New England in general – is the people aren’t very familiar with what a blog is. They don’t understand it and aren’t as excited or interested as people in other parts of the country. This is typical for anything “new” – our area is often the last to accept and welcome an unknown.
What are some ways you’re increasing your local presence? Has it been difficult to market your blog in your community?

I’m also focusing on increasing local content on my blog too 🙂 I’ve gotten so used to writing for a national (well global!) audience that it’s taking some getting used to!
I’m lucky to live in a vacation hot spot, so finding local content for the summer is easy…I’m worried for the winter when my posts will read Things to do on Cape Cod – stay inside, everything is closed!
I started local marketing just this past month! people get excited around here, when you mention anything free. I’ve noticed the local numbers go up in my area as well. I’ve been marketing to mom and pop shops, restaurants, etc.
Good for you! And I agree – people do get excited when you tell them about free stuff!
