Welcome to Week 4 of the Improving Your Blog series. I hope you found the tips that I’ve shared on choosing a platform and networking helpful as you continue on your blogging journey.
A common question asked by bloggers is “How Often Should I Post?” The answer is: as often as you feel like it! If your goal is to increase your readership, then you’ll want to post more frequently giving your readers fresh content. If you’re writing your blog simply as a creative outlet, you should be adding posts when you feel inspired.
I want to connect with my readers and gain new readers, too. For my regular readers, I follow the schedule below so that everyone knows what to expect each time. Some of my readers have favorites – and only stop by for those topics. I want them to know when to expect to find them.
Monday: Menu Plan Monday
Tuesday: Craft or Recipe
Wednesday: Whip It Up Wednesday (That’s my handmade project linky party. Be sure to link up your favorite craft or sewing project, recipe, or other DIY project.)
Thursday: Craft or Recipe
Friday: Improving Your Blog series and Our Week in Photos
Saturday: Day Off
Sunday: Day Off
I don’t have anything planned for the weekends because everyone needs a day off! It’s nice to know that I don’t feel pressured to write anything to be published on the weekends! I also post additional content during the week, like giveaways and product reviews too. {Be sure to hit the sidebar before you go and check to see what giveaways are currently open.}
If you’re establishing your blog, and aren’t sure what to write about, look for a multi-blog series or memes {I’m not sure what the technical name is!}. How they work is that one blogger will host a topic and other bloggers agree to participate and write a post to link up. Typically these series are spread over one month. It’s a great way to become inspired, get in the habit of writing and posting regularly, and you’ll find awesome bloggers to network with along the way! You can read my posts from the 30 Days About Me series here, if you’d like. I’m thinking of hosting one of these series/memes/party things in 2012, just need to choose a topic and start date!
Do you have a specific schedule that you stick to? How often do you post?
Kristi and I post at least once a day, usually taking Sundays off. Sometimes we have a post for that day and on some days we might have more than one post but we have a post like you do at least 6 days a week.
I feel that if you are in the blog world and have frequent readers if you stop posting when you have normally posted often you no longer exist in their eyes. You have to keep fresh content to keep readers interested in coming back on a regular basis. That is unless it is just a creative outlet like you mentioned.
Great post!
I’m about three days a week. It’s not scheduled though…usually Monday, Wed, Friday or Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday. Do you think Fridays are good days? I actually catch up a lot of my reading on a Friday.
I think Fridays are a good day to post. You may want to look at your traffic to see if you get more traffic on Fridays vs. other days if you’re thinking of changing it up. Asking your readers is a nice way to gauge what they’re interested in from you. However, if you have a topic you typically discuss on Fridays, I wouldn’t change it without giving your readers a heads up first.
I had a schedule when I first started blogging and was ding a lot of hops, now I just kind of wing it. I take weekends off unless I really need to get a client post up because I got behind during the week. Usually though, I prioritize by what obligations I have that have deadlines and then fill in the rest.
