Things have been rather crazy here over the last few months. Between rugby schedules, soccer practice, t-ball games, and meetings at school our dinners have been haphazard at best. Meal time is for reconnecting, and I’ve missed that time with my family.
As our activities begin to wind down over the next few weeks, I’m excited that we’ll have the opportunity to enjoy dinner as a family almost every night. Sitting at the table and enjoying a meal together allows us uninterrupted time to focus on our family. We can talk about the events of the day while enjoying a great meal.
While I’ve fallen off the menu planning wagon, we’re still enjoying great food together. One of my favorite meals to prepare is lasagna. To me, a lasagna symbolizes a great family meal. I think of a big bowl of salad, freshly baked bread, delicious red wine, and lots of laughter and great conversation.

The family dinner hour used to be sacred. I remember sitting down with my mom and dad every night for dinner. Sometimes we’d have steak or chicken, other nights it was a big bowl of spaghetti. No matter the meal, we were all there. Talking about our day and our plans for the following day. My dad’s favorite question “What did you learn in school today?” and my reply was usually “Nothing.”. His follow up? “Well then, why did you bother to go?” We had so many great conversations and really connected. I’m excited that The Texan and I are continuing one of my family’s traditions with our son.
