Can you believe that it is Memorial Day weekend already?! This weekend is the official kick-off to summer here on Cape Cod and I cannot wait! We’re fortunate to live in the part of the country where everyone is patriotic and there are plenty of activities taking place. Here are some fun Memorial Day activities to keep your family busy this year:
Learn about safe boating and water safety at the Cape Cod Canal Boating & Water Safety Day on Saturday. The event, organized by the US Army Corps of Engineers, the US Coast Guard, and the Massachusetts Environmental Police begins at 10am. Learn more by clicking here.
Also on Saturday is Figawi – The Race! To get the best view of the 200 plus sailboats participating in the race from Cape Cod to Nantucket, head to Kalmus beach. The boats will be organized off of Hyannis Port and begin the race starting 10am until approximately noon. There are 13 divisions competing across Nantucket Sound, in various courses, to be the first one to reach Nantucket. Can’t make it on Saturday? The boats make their return trip from Nantucket on Monday morning. Learn more about Figawi, and to make a donation to their charity, visit them here.
On Sunday, make plans to attend the 8th Annual “Troops in the Spotlight” 24 hour event to honor our men and women currently serving in our military and our Veterans, Wounded Warriors, and Gold Star Heroes and their families. The event begins at 11:30am and is held at the KMart plaza on Route 132 (Iyannough Road) in Hyannis. You can learn more about the event here.
Memorial Day weekend wouldn’t be complete without a parade. At 10am on Monday, be sure you’re in Centerville! The parade will follow the same route from last year, beginning at the Centerville Library and ending at the Beechwood Cemetary on Old Stage Road.
Where will you be this Memorial Day weekend? Where ever you are, please take a moment to honor the men and women of our armed services.
