If you’re anything like me, at the beginning of each new year you want to set a few goals for yourself. You start by asking yourself a few questions: what am I doing to ensure I’m reducing stress, am I balancing my work-family life effectively, am I doing my part to ensure my healthy home truly is a healthy home? After sitting back and looking at your lengthy goal list, you might decide to tackle a few right away.
You may start small by simply adding more vegetables to your morning smoothies {kale and spinach are my favorites!}, maybe you clean out your closet and donate all of the business casual clothing you’ve been hanging on to just in case you venture back into the corporate world {I really, really need to do this!} or maybe you head to your local Walgreens in search of a product line that will help you free your home of harmful chemicals {like me!}.
Since becoming a mom in 2009, I’ve become more conscious about the environment and try my best to limit my family’s exposure to harmful chemicals while at the same time supporting brands that are trying to create healthy environments for generations to come. I was trilled to discover that Walgreens has created the Ology brand. This exclusive product line contains no harmful chemicals, does not test on animals, and their paper products are 100% tree free. What’s even better is that they are effective, affordable and accessible. You’ll find the Walgreens Ology products in the same sections where you’re shopping for cleaning products and paper goods; no hunting the store for a special aisle.
I want to tell you that using products like those offered by the Ology brand will not disappoint you. Gone are the days where you had to use harmful chemicals to clean your home and do your laundry. These plant-based cleaning products are effective as their traditional counterparts. When it comes to the Ology line of paper towels and bath tissues, you’ll be pleasantly surprised. These products are far superior to the alternative products offered just a few years ago.
We’ve made simple changes to how we’re living. Many of these changes didn’t cost a lot of money, in fact I’m going to tell one thing you can do today that won’t cost you a penny! I really want my healthy home to be as healthy as it can be, for me, The Texan, and The Boy. Part of a healthy home is living a healthier lifestyle, too. You can follow these small steps to change your lifestyle just a bit and be on your way to a healthier home in no time:
Do Not Wear Shoes Inside. Do you pump your own gas? Next time you do, take a look at the ground beneath your feet. Take note of the dirt and gasoline likely spilled there. Did you know that wearing your shoes in the home tracks those chemicals around?
Recycle What You Can. Recycle all of the glass, paper, and plastic that your area allows.
Take Care of Your Car. Regular maintenance of your vehicle will ensure that you’re not giving off nasty emissions. Keep a close eye on tire pressure – properly inflated tires deliver better gas mileage.
Buy Plant Based Products Swap out your traditional cleaning products for those that are plant based, like the Ology products from Walgreens.
Choose Tree Free Paper Goods Look for paper products that are made from renewable resources, like the Ology Paper Towels which are made from quick-growing bamboo.
If you’re not totally convinced, I hope that watching this short video will help!
For me, choosing products like these are all about me doing my part to leave behind a healthier, happier world for The Boy and for future generations! What steps are you taking to ensure you’re living in a healthy home?

I haven’t tried these personally – but I really want to! They sound great and cutting chemicals out of the home is a great idea!

I love everything about Ology products! I never really put much thought into it until one day my toddler woke up from his nap coughing his head off & I later realized it was from the cleaning product I’d used earlier that day. The smell of it had made it’s way up to his room & was just THERE!
Been using homeade or eco-friendly since! I’ll have to try some Ology next time I’m at Walgreens! Thanks for sharing 🙂

I need to check out this line, it sounds like something I’d really love!
Terry says
I hate using all those chemicals in my cleaning products, deoderant, shampoo…. THEY ARE EVERYWHERE!! I try very hard not to use them, and really like that you found so many products that are natural all in one spot.
Speaking of wearing shoes indoors. I was reading that people that wear their shoes in their homes have a higher risk of cancer. I wish I could remember where I read that.

We’ve always removed our shoes in our home. I feel odd when I go to someone’s house and they keep their shoes on!
Stacie @ The Divine Miss Mommy says
We also remove our shoes as soon as we enter our home. Keeps everything much cleaner!
Emily says
YAY! I’m glad to hear that there are others out in the world doing this! Not only does it keep your home cleaner, but it keeps many nasty chemicals out!

I’d really love to cleanse my home from chemicals as well. They’re always a concern to me, regardless of children as I don’t have any yet. I just feel like I’m surrounding myself with harmful objects! Wish they had Ology in Israel!! I’d be purchasing all their products.
Sarah Bailey says
What a great sounding line – I do try and use more natural products in the home – I’ll have to keep an eye out for these 🙂 x

This is wonderful information you are sharing here. We never wear shoes in our home. I even have guest slipper beside the door for any guest that do not want to go barefoot.
I am glad to here their products are affordable and accessible. Its not fun to have to order everything over the internet and pay shipping.
Emily says
I love the idea of guest slippers! I typically bring my own – as do some guests – but others would probably love a pair of slippers. Great idea!
Robin (Masshole Mommy) says
I have to admit that I am not really great about recycling, but I blame my town on that one. They are terrible about picking it up. Anyhow, I try to clean a lot with vinegar, so I think that is a step in the right direction.

I have recently heard of their products. I am afraid to change because my youngest son is so sensitive. I might have to try to wash just one of his items, hopefully I can find a trial size so we can try it that way as detergent is expensive.
