Considering this is a national event, and it was not mentioned on my local news, I felt it my duty to share it with you.
I happen to love wine, making it particularly easy for me to participate in this event. I also feel that my wine knowledge is above average, that big ol’ company that I worked for had a thing or two for wine and taught me a thing or two about it.
Here are my wine tips for you to ensure your participation in this event is a success!
- Drink what you like.
- It’s okay to buy wine because the label is cute, fancy, has a lobster on it, or whatever floats your boat.
- Red wines typically pair well with chocolate, red sauces, and hearty foods like steak and portobella mushrooms.
- White wines typically pair well with chicken, fish and creamy sauces (like Alfredo, yum. I have the best recipe, I’ll post it soon.).
- One bottle should yield four (4) glasses, except at my house on days when nap time was cut short.
During the winter months, I drink Michele Chiarlo Barbera D’Asti, and bourbon. Not together though, that’s a bad pairing. It is not a sparkling wine, as the “Asti” name might catch you off guard. This full-bodied red wine is a beautiful ruby red color, with a dry finish. You should taste hints of berries. The wine maker ages it in French oak barrels for eight months prior to bottling. Sounds pricey, eh? Nope. I pick up a bottle for around $13 at my local liquor store.
Whatever you decide on tonight, I hope you enjoy National Drink Wine Day!
