Salty or Sweet?
I can’t decide. With my lunch today, I had these salty Trader Joe’s corn chips. They’re like Fritos, but without the funky ingredients. I love them, but they’re super salty.
Immediately after eating those I craved something sweet. Like chocolate. Or an ice cream cone. Or pie. Or the Blueberry Cheesecake Bites on a stick that I foolishly did not purchase during my trip to Trader Joe’s this morning.
It appears that by eating something salty, I trigger the craving for something sweet.
What about you? Are you a salty snacker or a sweet treat fan?

I actually like both…many times I’ll eat a cracker, and follow it up with some chocolate (or vice versa). I know chocolate-dipped pretzels and things like that are popular, but I haven’t really tried them. Sea salt chocolate bars are nice, though.
Amanda Alvarado says
I usually get a craving for one or the other but I can’t remember ever wanting one right after the other! LOL I have tried to stop the craving of sweet with salty (or vice versa) but it never works!
Stephanie Hungerford says
I am a sugaroholic and my friends would say that too. I love gummy warms, hot tamales, but almost anything very high in sugar is what I crave. But I also love Kettle Corn because it is both sweet and salty perfectly balanced, plus lower in calories that most of the crap that I usually eat
Trasina McGahey says
The best snacks have both! I love choc covered nuts and pretzels. Soooooo good!
jennifer horn says
I like both, just depends on the mood. Turtle Chex mix seems to cover both pretty good!
Marti Parks says
Oh my heck. With me it’s an endless crazy cycle. I eat something sweet then I have to have something salty….then something sweet….then salty. I hate it when that happens.
Wendy Kroy says
I would much rather have savory than sweet. Sweet in generally “too sweet” for me.
colleen boudreau says
I’m both types.. depends what i’m craving at the moment. or mix em’ together! π

kettle corn is fab or a mix of nuts and raisins

I like both together! I love the trail mixes with salty pretzels and m&ms!!!! YUMMY!
ANN*H says
Well it actually depends on what kind of mood I’m in or what time of the day it is. If Im down and feel I need an energy boost it is definately something sweet for me. It has to be chocolate most of the time .Usually if Im watching a movie or on the computer its chips or some cheese and pretzels with my diet pepsi. I am all set to go then. Not very nutritious I know.
Tami Vollenweider says
I have to say I crave more of the Salty Snacks1 I’m addicted to Cheez-Its

Usually salty, but chocolate-covered pretzels hit the spot when I can’t make up my mind!
Laura B says
I’m 100% a sweets eater, you name it, I’ll eat it. Not to say I won’t turn down a good salty popcorn – but if I had the choice, sweet all the way.
Christy Maurer says
I am the same way as you. As soon as I have something salty, I need something sweet! That’s why chocolate covered pretzels are the best π Or chips and dip and chocolate milk!
Gianna says
I love salty, savory snacks.
Kate F. says
I love a combination of both, like sea salt caramel fudge or chocolate covered pretzels.
Amy Truluck says
I’m the same way – I crave salt – like chips, pickles, olives. But as soon as I have salt, then I’m craving sweet. I’m learning that bitter chocolate works OK at bedtime for me – it fulfills the sweet craving, but is bitter enough that I don’t over do it. Choclate covered pretzels are one of my most favorite treats ever!
Melissa Stoneback-Tuttle says
I find I’m more of a sweet person although I try to avoid them as I’m diabetic. I HATE things that are overly salty, I’ve never been a fan of salt and never use it in cooking or when I’m eating something.
Leslie Galloway says
I know exactly what you’re talking about. I love sweets the most… but when I eat them, I often find myself soon after wanting a salty snack. vicious circle!
Tara says
I love salty snacks, but even better sweet and salty together!
glori johnson says
I can definitely say that i have finally acquired a taste for them both. I can eat ice cream without having a bag of buttery popcorn on the side…lol…if i eat anything salty…i have to eat a sweet item with it. glori j
