Another forced holiday is in the books!
Don’t get me wrong, I love the idea behind Valentine’s Day. I just don’t need one day when marketing teams and media outlets across the nation team up and tell me that I need to show some lovin’.
I can do it on my own. In my own way.
We woke to a light covering of snow. My guess is about two inches. I should probably invest in a ruler to better track this. Maybe next year?
The snowfall did make me want to lounge around the house and snuggle with my loves. But alas, it was a weekday and we had things to accomplish! Like getting The Boy to preschool. He and his classmates exchanged Valentines, and took a field trip to a nearby nursing home. At the nursing home they gave the residents cards that they’d worked on all week, and enjoyed cookies and juice. {The teacher reported that The Boy didn’t care for the apple juice, I’m guessing that is because he has never had it before! Score one for me!} I’m really looking forward to seeing pictures from their field trip.
You know that The Texan and I won’t dine out for Valentine’s Day, but that doesn’t mean we don’t exchange cards and small gifts.
Because I’m predictable, and know that The Texan has a weak spot for chocolate, I chose an assortment of fine chocolates from the Hot Chocolate Sparrow. If you’re not familiar with them, they’re a small coffee and chocolate bar in the town of Orleans. It’s another Cape Cod treasure. Here’s a fun fact: the building they are in used to be the site of a business that my mother owned!
The Texan made me a beautiful collage of the memories we’ve made together. You can imagine there were lots of photos of The Boy, our wedding and honeymoon! We look so young in our wedding photos, it really brings back memories!
I made an exciting meal of chicken tenders and onion rings, not the stuffed peppers that I originally planned. There were no complaints, maybe we’ll have stuffed peppers tonight?!
How was your Valentine’s Day? How did you celebrate?

I think that is so nice that the boy’s class went to the nursing home. I am sure it made their day. We just took it easy at home and had soup and sandwiches for dinner.

His class goes for every holiday and brings something fun to the residents. I’m not sure who enjoys it more – the kids or the seniors!

Sounds like you had a lovely holiday! I love that your son’s class visited the nursing home and gave out valentine cards! That’s so thoughtful.
We didn’t dine out either – my husband ran out to get some fast food (horrible, I know!). We plan to do something a little better this weekend while the boy is at his Nana’s. 🙂

Depending on what you choose from the fast food restaurant, it doesn’t have to be bad. For example, if we’re on a road trip and have to stop for a quick meal, I try to find Wendy’s. I like that I can choose a salad and a baked potato. I’ve heard their chili is quite good, too – but I’m not a red meat eater so I can’t say for certain!
I’m envious of your child-free weekend! Have an amazing time connecting with your husband and enjoying each other’s company.

My son isn’t old enough for scouts yet! I’m enjoying the low key nights when his activities aren’t dictating our plans!

Be careful what you wish for! I wished for snow & we lost power for 10 hours!! I am excited, though, we’re supposed to get 8 inches tonight. Woo-hoo!

We didn’t do much for V-Day this year. I made a special pot roast dinner for the family.
