I’m excited to share my community with you as part of the 30 Days About Me series that Toni from A Daily Dose of Toni has wonderfully coordinated for us.
We live in a tiny community called Hyannis Port. Many of you may be familiar with it’s name because of my late neighbor, Senator Ted Kennedy. It is beautiful here, and I can see why the Kennedy’s chose to call Hyannis Port. We are nestled against Nantucket Sound with the sounds of the rolling waves playing in the background. Some say they smell the ocean air all the time, but I’ve grown used to it. I only smell it after being off island for a few days. {And yes, Cape Cod is an island.}
There are many wonderful things about living in a community with no traffic lights. It’s quaint. It’s wonderful to walk around. The majority of the homes in our community are nearing 100 years old, or older! The architecture is beautiful. We have a tiny post office, and a tiny general store. The general store is only open seasonally, if you need anything in the off-season you’ll be venturing into the “big city”.
During the winter months, it is extremely quiet here. Many of our neighbors pack up and head for warmer climates. I love the peacefulness. Our beach is empty of visitors, except for this cute little dog! The photo below was taken New Year’s Day 2010.
Those of us who stay around, don’t see one another often. The summer is a completely different story. All of the homes are opened up, American flags are hung proudly on poles. {Nearly everyone has an American flag hanging in their yard in our community, how about yours?} People are riding their bikes. Parents are playing catch with kids on the lawn. Boats back in the water at the yacht club.
I love living here!
One of my many dream towns! You are Lucky…it is beautiful and rich in heritage :]
What a beautiful town! Are you in any risk of being hit by Irene?
Sadly, yes were are likely to be impacted by Irene. The projected path is all over the place right now. We’re prepared as much as we can be- after living so long in Florida we’re used to Hurricanes! We’ll just hunker down and hope for the best! Thanks so much for asking!
I love New England. I was born in Maine but moved when I was about 6 months old. I haven’t been up that way since high school. What a beautfiful area of the country.
