I have a variety of talents – such as the ability to pee in four seconds – but I don’t think that is what Toni was looking for when she asked us to share a talent or hobby for the 30 Days About Me series.

One hobby I am developing is sewing. As a young girl, my mother often talked about how my great-grandmother was an excellent seamstress who could whip up anything. She made several dresses and coats for my mother and her sister. I’d always wanted to learn, sadly my great-grandmother passed away five years before I was born, and neither my mother or grandmother had picked up the craft.
My mother had a sewing machine – it was a gift from my father the Christmas I’d turned five, I remember that because that was the Christmas I received my purple bike – she’d planned to teach herself so that she could teach me. She lost interest, or maybe I did. I wouldn’t learn to sew until sixth grade home economics class. Nonetheless, I acquired that old sewing machine about six years ago. Along with it was fabric pinned to a skirt pattern that my mother started to make for me…when I was five years old.
That old sewing machine sat in my garage in Orlando, untouched. I packed it up and moved it with us to Boston. Where it sat in our garage again, untouched. When we relocated to Cape Cod, I moved it again. This time to the basement. My laundry room is in the basement, and I’d look at it every time I went downstairs. I finally hauled it upstairs and have started to sew again. Yes, it’s just like riding a bike! I was a bit rusty on the how-to-thread-it part!!
I’ve whipped up a curtain to hide our unsightly cat litter box. And a few zippered clutches. And I even hemmed a lined, silk dress for my mother. {That one was scary!}
I have dreams a goal to open my own shop soon. I am toying with ideas for names. Should I keep it similar to my blog name, or something completely different? Open to suggestions!

I love your blog name! Keeping the name close to something that is relate-able to mothers is always a great idea! Opening a shop would be fun, but I would be scared I wouldn’t enjoy the mental escape that sewing gives me when I make it a “job”
Oh! I soooo wish I could sew. My husband even bought me a sewing machine because I was going to learn. Yeah… I loaned it to my sis-in-law indefinitely…
oh I WISH i could sew!! im useless ๐ But its on my list! I love your blog name, so i would go with that! Brand it Baby, Brand it ๐ x
So I am going to add like all the rest I wish I knew how to sew!!!
