Who ever thought that I would take so much pleasure from menu planning and a grocery budget. I mentioned last week that we’ve started using a grocery delivery service. I cannot tell you how much I love it.
Not only is it convenient, but we are staying well within our grocery budget for the month. After placing three orders through the delivery service and a few fill-in trips to Trader Joe’s for items that we can’t live without, like their Ruby Red Grapefruit Juice, our total amount spent is $539.27. I am eager to place next week’s delivery order and see where we are with our overall grocery budget.
We’ve nearly stopped dining out and our ordering of delivery/take out meals has stopped. It’s time to get back to the basics. I love January. Every January we remind ourselves of what we should be doing throughout the year and give ourselves the chance to start fresh.
This week, we’re eating simply. I’m heading to Lake Placid on Thursday to visit the Olympic Training Center – more on that soon, I promise – so I’m leaving The Texan easy meals that he can quickly prepare.
Monday – Lasagna Rolls and homemade Italian bread. Although lasagna was on the menu plan last week, we skipped it.
Tuesday – Jambalaya
Wednesday – Burritos
Thursday – Leftover Lasagna
Friday – Leftover Jambalaya
Saturday – Dinner out. My flight arrives to Boston mid-afternoon, we’ll stop for dinner on our way home.
Sunday – Homemade Pizza
How are you doing with your grocery budget and menu plan for 2014? It’s not to late to get started. If you need some inspiration for menu planning, I shared my menu planning tips and tricks.

I am TERRIBLE about menu planning even though I know it would help my budget out so much. I’d love a delivery service. Honestly, we eat so much food I hate to even think about making the weekly trip.
Not so great so I am trolling for ideas for a menu plan. Thanks so much.
Hi Emily! Great post. I would love to have my groceries delivered. What a time and money saver! I need to start working on a meal plan. My hubbie and I eat different things for every meal so planning is critical (I have severe food allergies so I can’t eat processed food). Thanks for inspiring me to get planning!
