If April Showers bring May Flowers, what do Mayflowers bring? Yep, you guessed it, Pilgrims! Growing up near the site of where the Pilgrims first came ashore, I think that was the first joke that I memorized.
Now that you’re recovered from my side splitting joke, I thought it would be fun to talk about fun activities and easy recipes for rainy days.
We haven’t had many rainy days this April; according to our meteorologist, we could use several inches of rain. I certainly hope the rain comes soon, I’d hate for it to hold off until the summer months.
This is how our recent rainy day went:
If you’re the parent of a toddler boy, you’re familiar with how much fun transportation toys provide. The Boy is currently obsessed with playing with trains. After I spend fifteen minutes setting up his track, complete with a roundhouse, a diesel train repair facility and a loading dock, we enjoy two minutes together shunting and hauling.
Next project – building a wooden log ranch. I would have said house, but The Boy prefers that I build the ranch that uses every single log. I’m lucky, the log set that he has is wood – just like it was when I was a kid. I guess this gives me an advantage over other moms when it comes to designing log ranches. You can imagine that using all of 200 of the logs takes a few minutes. My estimate is 20. We play with it for three minutes. It falls to the floor when he attempts to drive his trains into the building that I constructed.
We’re buzzing through activities now! It’s time to build an airplane out of plastic building blocks. We’re using the big bulky ones that don’t connect to eat other well. It takes me four minutes to build the airplane. He brakes it in eight seconds.
I decide it’s nap time for The Boy.
I am exhausted. I am starved.
I head to the kitchen and prepare myself a delicious Jennie O Turkey Burger. Straight from the freezer to the hot cast iron grill pan. It’s ready in minutes. I top it with avocado and Swiss cheese. Delicious!
The last few minutes of nap time are spent lying on the couch wondering if I will have the energy for round two!
How do you keep your family busy during those days that you have to stay indoors? I would love to hear about any tasty meals you cook, crafts or other fun projects that your family works on together!
