For the last few months, I’ve spent quite a bit of time drooling over blenders and juicers. Website after website, sparkly machine after sparkly machine. Do you find all of the choices a bit overwhelming?
Since starting my Shaklee180 journey, I’ve been making lots of smoothies – like this delicious one with Kale – and I’m concerned that our three-bladed blender is going to give out. This morning I asked The Texan if we had a back up. He says there is another in the basement. Hmm…I wonder if that one has four blades. Like they all should.
The Vitamix looks like an amazing machine; have you seen one? They remind me of the blenders that we used way, way back when I was bartending. It seems that everyone who has one of those loves it to pieces. I saw photos of a few smoothies that came out of that machine, holy cow! Impressive!
After making smoothies every day for the last two weeks and researching juicers, I don’t know that I actually need one. While juicers seem great for juicing, I love the texture of smoothies. They’re like milkshakes without the guilt. Can a juicer make juice into a shake-like texture?
I’ve been eyeballing the Ninja mixer system, too. It’s similar to the Vitamix, but more affordable. The model that I am considering has a large pitcher (for mixing things like Margaritas) and two personal size tumblers. The personal size tumblers are a selling point for me. If The Texan and I had individual tumblers, we wouldn’t have to quickly wash the pitcher for the next person to use in the morning. That is a win-win in my book!
What type of blenders and juicers do you use?

I’m so lame – I have a blender but never use it and no juicer here! Another place to research is another way to be sure you get the right one for you!
Emily says
I don’t think you’re lame, Maggie! I’ve just started twice daily smoothies, and think I might want a juicer. However, my research is showing that a Vitamix might be all that I need. Juicers sound like a PITA to clean, which is not a good selling point for me!

Oh I’m just as lame. I don’t use a blender or a juicer ๐ I have been wanting to invest in a juicer though~
Emily says
I can’t wait to get one. I’ve decided on a Vitamix – I think we’ll use it more often. Now, to save my pennies!

Vitamix’s take my breath away. I would give anything for one. I try to add to my professional kitchenware at least once per year, and thus far-I’ve yet to get my hands on a Vitamix. I don’t a juicer, and my poor blender died a horrible death a few months ago when my husband attempted to make a milkshake without the top on. I haven’t replaced it yet ๐

I am dying to get my hands on a Vitamix, too! Maybe I’ll give you my old blender when I do. ๐

My husband and I are big smoothie fans. I would always choose a blender since we use ours on a daily basis. We just recently started using Kefir in our smoothies and it has that milkshake taste to me!
Emily says
Ooohhh Kefir – does that make it a thicker texture, too? I’ve been making smoothies with almond milk lately, but thought about using Kefir.
Becky L says
Yes, it works well to give it a creamy texture. We buy Kefir in the vanilla flavor, but some already have fruit flavors.
