With fall cleaning upon us, I’m come to the realization that I hate clutter. Don’t you? After purging items over the last few weeks, one big way I am reducing clutter is by using products that can multitask well. How many times have you accidentally discovered that one product can do the work of two? Today, I’m sharing my recent discovery that detergent works in many ways other than washing dishes.
I love washing cars. When I was growing up, my dad and I used to hand wash our family’s vehicles every week. He taught me the importance of a clean vehicle. Did you know that a clean vehicle gets better gas mileage? This week, without my dad’s help, I got outside and tackled the dirty wheels of my car.
Using the bathtub faucet, I filled my bucket with warm water and about a teaspoon of Dawn detergent. Using a soft brush, I swirled the Dawn around as it worked up some suds.
And then I started scrubbing.
Midway through, I switched from the soft brush to a microfiber cloth. The microfiber cloth really pulled the grease and grim from the wheels. Gross.
Once I finished washing the tire, I rinsed it thoroughly with our garden hose and dried with a clean microfiber towel.
My wheels are now much cleaner and I no longer need a special wheel cleaner. Dawn did a fantastic job cutting though the grease and road grime that was on the wheels. Now, if only I could find that missing valve stem cover!

What a brilliant idea! I switched to Dawn about four years ago and it is the only brand I use. I will get my hubby a bottle so he can do the cars! 😉

Hardest to clean is probably the shower hardware.
My tires get so gross so quickly! I dont know if it is because my car is so old or what but I definitely need to clean them more often than I do!
