Part of my role as a parent is to create memories that will last a lifetime, one way that I do that is by making holidays special in our home. Halloween is The Texan’s favorite holiday, he looks forward to it every year and has passed along his love for spooky things and scaring me onto The Boy! This year, with Halloween falling on a school night, we decided to create a family Halloween party a few days early so we’re not running too crazy on Halloween night.
On a recent trip to Walmart, I picked up a bag of Nestle candies (my local Walmart was just stocking their Halloween candies that day, I was able to find a bag with Nerds, Butterfingers, Crunch, and Gobstoppers.) and few Tombstone Pizzas with the ‘Scary Monsters’ packaging. Did you know that Tombstone is the official pizza of Halloween? I opted for cheese, however my local Walmart also carried the Scary Monsters packaging is available on the Bacon Cheeseburger, Supreme and Pepperoni. Something for all tastebuds! We rarely have frozen pizza in our house, so this was a big treat for everyone! Initially, I thought about cutting the pizza into fun shapes using my bat, pumpkin, cat, and ghost cookie cutters however that was a major fail. The first pizza I cooked was too hot and the crust was too crispy for my plastic cutters. Boo! If you have metal cutters, I think this idea would be smashing! Thankfully, Plan B was to serve the pizza slices on halloween themed plates.
I’ll be honest when I tell you that The Boy bypassed the pizza and went straight for the Butterfinger Brownies. Can you blame him? You’re drooling right now, aren’t you?
Ingredients
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 stick melted butter
- 3 eggs
- 1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 cup flour
- 12 Fun Size Butterfinger candies, roughly chopped
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Lightly grease 9X13 brownie pan.
- In a medium bowl, combine sugar, vanilla, and melted butter.
- Mix on low speed and add eggs one at a time.
- Slowly add cocoa powder and flour.
- Fold in the chopped Butterfinger candies into the mixture, reserving 1/4 for the top.
- Pour mixture into pan, adding the reserved candies.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes.
- Let cool completely in pan before slicing
Because Butterfinger Brownies weren’t enough fun, I also whipped up a quick and easy Chocolate Crunch Shake. This shake was amazing. So delicious and very easy to make! Hooray! I did find it a wee bit chocolatey and plan to make it again using unsweetened vanilla almond milk.
Ingredients
- 8 ounces Chocolate Almond Milk
- 2 fun size Nestle Crunch bars
- 4-6 ice cubes
Instructions
- Combine all ingredients in a blender (or in a mason jar with an immersion blender).
- Continue mixing until desired consistency.
- Serve immediately.
Now that we’ve practiced for Halloween, The Boy is ready to jump into his Astronaut costume and head out trick or treating! I’m sure I’ll be hearing “Is it Halloween yet?” every day!
How do you create a complete Halloween experience for your family?

I’d do the same – I LOVE Butterfinger and to add it in brownies is genius!
Emily says
The next time I make the brownies, I might add peanut butter to the brownie batter before adding the Butterfinger candies. I mean, you can’t have too much peanut butter, right?!
