Happy Earth Month Friends!
Following a greener and more eco-friendly lifestyle is important to me because I want to live a long, fulfilling life. I want to watch The Boy grow up. And, I want the Earth to be a beautiful place for everyone to enjoy. This month, I’ve been reading about so many amazing initiatives supporting our environment and I’m excited to share how you can join me in becoming a Toxin Freedom Fighter.
It’s no secret that we should try our best to avoid items labeled as toxic; and as a mom I wanted to reduce my son’s exposure to toxins. As our family, we do our best to reduce waste by taking small steps that replacing our bottled water purchases with a water filter and recycling as must as we can. We can only control so much though; we must look to our elected officials to lead by example.
In 1976, the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA) was passed. Exciting right? I thought so, too. And, then I learned that nearly 40 years later it has never been updated. As it stands now, tens of thousands of potentially harmful chemicals are unsed in the marketplace without proper testing – and without disclosure by the companies using them.
Catch your breath. I know this is disturbing news.
Why should we address chemical reform?
Scientists have linked exposure to toxic chemicals to a variety of health risks, not limited to asthma, birth defects, Cancer, and Alzheimer’s disease. That’s enough for me. Why wouldn’t we want to address chemicals that are making us sick??
How can you help?
Join me and Seventh Generation in becoming a Toxin Freedom Fighter by signing the petition urging congress to reevaluate the TSCA. The goal is set at collection 100,000 signatures by April 24. Please urge your friends and family members to do the the same.
Let’s take a stand. Pledge to #FightToxins with me.
