I have struggled to find sleep solutions to my self-diagnosed middle-of-the-night-insomia for the last few years. Toward the end of my pregnancy sleep became an issue due to the extra weight and a squirmy baby who seemed to love doing somersaults at night! I would lie awake and my brain would go. And go. And go. After The Boy was born, my sleep issues continued because I had an infant. We’re fortunate that The Boy slept through the night (six to seven hour stretches) at four-months old, but my sleep issues continued. Because I was breastfeeding at the time, there were no easy sleep solutions for me. Most of the medications on the market at the time were not deemed safe for breastfeeding moms to use. I suffered through it.
Long nights awake for the last few years have taken a toll on me. I’m often agitated and always tired. I decided to head to my local Walgreens and talk with the pharmacist on duty about my sleep issues. You can see my entire shopping experience in my Google+ album.
Before leaving for Walgreens, I made sure that my Walgreens App was up-to-date and checked to see the Weekly Ad for my area. I didn’t need toothpaste, but there’s a great deal if you do!
It was a bright and sunny day – and I scored a parking spot up front! YAY ME!
There was a slight wait for the consultation with the pharmacist, but it didn’t take too long. While I waited, I came across this sign.
The pharmacist was very friendly and helpful. He asked me what my sleep issues were, and I explained that I do not have trouble falling asleep at night but I do have trouble staying asleep. That many of my nights I sleep for three hours, then lie awake for three hours, falling asleep in the early morning as the birds are chirping. I also explained that I preferred something not habit forming and wouldn’t leave me feeling groggy {or groggier} the next day. He recommended a more natural remedy called MidNite for me to try. It’s a low dose of melatonin. {I am no longer breastfeeding, and the label on this package does not recommend that breastfeeding women use this product.}
I felt confident in the information that the pharmacist provided to me. One reason that I was made to feel more comfortable talking about my sleep issues was having the pharmacist come out from behind the counter. I felt more relaxed. Having a personalized consultation with the pharmacist was a great experience for me, and I can see myself using it in future. Depending on your issue, I think people of all ages could benefit from using this complimentary service. Finding answers at Walgreens was a huge help for me; I loved the convenience of walking into my local pharmacy and walking out with a solution!
For the first time in years, I am looking forward to going to bed tonight. Knowing that the possibility of a good night’s rest is not too far off in the distance gives me hope! With my luck, I’ll be too excited about it to even sleep!

My husband has trouble sleeping so he’ll have to check this out
I struggle with sleep problems as well. Mine is difficulty in falling asleep, sometimes I toss and turn for hours! I am going to give the MidNite tablets a try!
I need some sleep and my kid are dying to see Epic. Looks like they have everything i need!
I know so many people that suffer from sleepless nights. I’m going to tell them about this. How convenient that it can be found at Walgreens.
It’s great that the pharmacists are so easy to talk with. They really make you feel comfortable and listen to your concerns.
Thankfully no one in our house has had a problem with sleeping. Well, going to bed too late is a problem for me so I guess I’ll need to fix that!
I’m so envious of you Cheryl! You’re a lucky lady!!
I have the WORST insomnia, I have yet to try MidNite though, adding it to my shopping list! Thanks for this post!!
I hope you find good luck with it!
Ugh, I hate when I wake up in the night it is just awful lying there awake like that. I hope this helped you.
It has helped! Hooray!
I’ve always used Unisom to help me sleep but it often times knocks me out and into half of the next day. I’m always groggy after taking it. I’ll have to give MidNite a try. Thanks for sharing Emily!
That’s what was happening to me with another sleep aid. This has worked great for me. Be sure to chat with your Walgreens pharmacist, they’re able to provide recommendations based on your symptoms and needs.
I love Walgreens! great post!
I’m curious if this worked for you. If I have any type of caffeine (even if it’s in chocolate), I cannot fall asleep. I literally lay there like a zombie with my brain going 90-to nothing. And I wasn’t always like this. 2 years ago I could drink an entire case of soda and fall asleep stat. Getting old is no fun!
It has worked well for me, so far. I am caffeine free these days, which I think contributes to my sleep issues. Maybe? I used to drink two pots of coffee a day, gross and unhealthy but it kept me going through long work days. It sounds like your issues are the same as mine. While this product works for me, I encourage you to chat with your pharmacist too!
My boyfriend, Cory, has this issue as well! I can’t wait to suggest this to him!
I hope you were able to get a good night’s sleep! My husband goes through bouts of insomnia, so I can definitely see him benefiting from this service.
I’ve been sleeping quite well, lately. Some nights I don’t wake at all. I’m well rested and full of energy!
