Give The Gift of a Great Future with Boys & Girls Clubs of America
Like many of you, our family has been quite busy this month preparing for Christmas. This is the first Christmas that The Boy is excited and completely wrapped up in the magic of the season. Since the day we went to the tree farm and The Texan chopped down our tree, The Boy has been asking if Santa is coming tonight! I am excited to see his smiling face on Christmas morning.
We have been enjoying our fun family traditions, like hanging stockings, advent calendars, and will be making homemade cinnamon rolls for Christmas morning, yet in our minds we know that there are many families that are in need. This holiday season, I am proud that we have been able to sponsor four local children who may not have otherwise experienced a happy Christmas morning. Together, we purchased clothing and toys to donate. It is a great feeling to be able to give back to members of our community. I truly hope that The Boy will follow our lead as he gets older and continue to be charitable.
This year marks the second year of the Boys & Girls Club of America . While three is a young age to not want to keep every toy and shirt that we’ve chosen for other children, The Boy has been very generous. There are many ways to encourage your children to give back:
- Talk about philanthropy – Tell your children about a time when your family has helped someone, or has received help.
- Do a fun activity – Toddlers can color pictures for your local senior center residents and deliver them with freshly baked cookies.
- Read books about giving – Try The Mitten Tree by Candace Christiansen, I Can Make a Difference by Julie and Amanda Sexson or a selection from Learning to Give’s Annotated Bibliography of Children’s Literature.
If you’re inspired to give back right now, visit the Boys & Girls Clubs of America and play the free Giving Game to donate a gift to a Club! Tip: While playing the game, stay focused on your heart!
How does your family give back?
Disclosure: I participated in a campaign on behalf of Mom Central Consulting for Boys and Girls Clubs of America. I received a promotional item as a thank-you for participating.
