It is still summer. Take a look at your calendar friends. Slow down and savor the days with your friends. At our house, summer means bold, fresh flavors in our kitchen. And we don’t reserve those flavors for food only, we extend them to our beverages. Last weekend, The Texan was getting ready to fire up the grill for a fun outdoor meal with our friends when I spied a few bottles of El Yucateco® Green Habanero, Red Habanero, and XXX Hot Kutbil-ik Sauces. I decided the Green Habanero is the perfect ingredient to add to a Margarita.
I chose the green for the Habanero Margarita because it packs a little more heat than the red habanero, but has less vinegar. El Yucateco® sauces can be found at your neighborhood Walmart store. You’ll find a wide variety of flavors like Caribbean Habanero, Black Label Reserve, Chipotle, and Jalapeño. El Yucateco® is the #1 consumer choice for habanero sauce. It is a fun flavorful brand that we all love and becomes part of our every day life.
When I make Green Habanero Margaritas, I like to squeeze my own lime juice. Freshly squeezed juices enhance the flavor of your margarita. It’s a simple process, just grab a lime juicer, slice your lime in half and squeeze away. From one lime, you can squeeze about 2 tablespoons of lime juice. That’s enough for one drink!
Once you squeeze all of your limes, add the juice to a pitcher with ice and some lime slices. Pour in your favorite agave tequila, orange liqueur, and two tablespoons of El Yucateco® Green Habanero Sauce [or more!!] and stir with a wooden spoon.
Pour the Green Habanero Margarita into a glass, garnish with a wedge of lime, sit back and enjoy the beautiful summer weather.
Margaritas are a fun drink. And, I’ve made plenty of them over the years. My research [hey, someone has to do it!] has discovered that the most delicious Margaritas have simple, fresh ingredients. The base recipe that I use for all of my Margaritas follows the portion guideline below:
1.5 parts tequila
1.5 parts orange liqueur
1 part fresh squeezed lime juice
A few pro tips: When making one drink, shake the ingredients in a mason jar fitted with a lid. Not only does this reduce the clean up, it chills the Margarita perfectly. When making a pitcher for a group, remember to chill the pitcher in advance by freezing it for a few hours. If you plan to invite friends to enjoy a Green Habanero Margarita with you, consider picking up some kosher salt to rim the lip of your glasses. For many people, a salt rim is a traditional ingredient for a margarita. Some of us think that it’s too messy.
