If you are looking for a great way to spend a fall afternoon, head to King Richards Faire in Carver. Just a short drive from Cape Cod or Boston, you don’t want to miss out on New England’s largest Renaissance festival! You can spend your entire day feasting on turkey legs, pretzels, and other delightful treats; shop the artisan market; watch knights joust; and get lost in a maze!
The Tournament Field is busy all day. We were disappointed that the jousting was taking place much later than we planned to be there, but we had a blast watching the other shows.
One of our family’s favorite activities at King Richard’s Faire was the maze. The Texan and I each took a turn taking The Boy through. He absolutely loved it.
There were several rides for the children, too. But keep in mind, they’re all powered by human strength. The kids will think they’re wonderful…you’re likely to regret your decision. My arms ached for days after this ride. Honestly, they should be subtitled as “exercise for moms and dads”.
The parade was fun, too. One thing I love about festivals and faires is catching the parades. They often tell the story about the event. This parade did not disappoint. I loved the king’s men on the horses.
Having never attended a Renaissance festival before, I wasn’t sure what to expect. There were lots (and I mean lots) of people dressed in costume. That was cool, but left The Boy begging for a Knight’s coat of armor. He asked over and over again. And then once more for good measure. In the end, we didn’t buy him a coat of armor, but made him a knightly sword at home instead.

An important note: Admission is $28 for adults and $16 for children, they only accept cash at the gate. If you’d like to pay by credit card, you may visit their website to do so. You’ll need cash for drink and food tickets, tipping the entertainers and rides for children. ATM machines are available inside the gate for a fee.
Renaissance Faires are so much fun! I just went to the Maryland one a couple of weeks ago and had a blast. Glad you had fun. 🙂
