Want to pamper the women in your life that have helped you along the way? This easy to make Lemon Sugar Scrub is an affordable way to create a wonderful gift at a great price.
As I get older, friendships mean more to me. I am more aware of how my behavior impacts others. I know that if I want to have good friends, I need to be one.
Being a good friend means different things to different people. People give and receive love in different ways. One way that I show my love for friends is by remembering their birthdays. And, not just on Facebook.
This year, my sorority pledge class {and I!} will celebrate forty years of amazingness. I met these ladies when I was just 17. So many years ago. So many memories. Cue the tears.
While we do not see one another often, these awesome women continue to influence and impact my life. We stay connected thanks to social media. I appreciate each one of them for different reasons. Each one has helped me to grow and supported me through good times and bad.
I wanted to do something nice for each way to celebrate their birthday and to let them know how much they mean to me. However, sending several gifts with cards can easily break your budget! While shopping at Walmart recently, I found these awesome Hallmark cards starting at 47 cents!
Once home, I decided to make a batch of Lemon Sugar Scrub. This clean, lightly scented scrub is perfect for everyone. Feel free to play with the oil you use and the scents you add. What’s wonderful about making your own lemon sugar scrub is that it is free of chemicals and preservatives that you often find in store-bought scrubs.
Lemon Sugar Scrub
Gather your supplies:
1/4 cup coconut oil, melted
1 cup white sugar
zest of 1 lemon
1/2 cup lemon juice, freshly squeezed
Get started:
Start by measuring your coconut oil and placing it in a microwave safe bowl. Heat on high in 15 second intervals until melted.
While the coconut oil is melting, zest your lemon.
To the bowl with the melted coconut oil, add lemon zest, sugar, and lemon juice. Stir well. It should look light and fluffy.
Pour scrub into a cute mason jar. I really like these squatty jars, don’t you?
Be sure to make an extra jar for yourself. The lemon sugar scrub is easy to use. Simply take a spoonful and rub it in your hands as if you were washing them. Enjoy the natural exfoliation of the sugar while the coconut oil moisturizes your skin. Rinse well with cool water and enjoy your smooth skin.
I’ve shared how Hallmark cards for 47 cents can help stretch your gift giving budget and my easy DIY Lemon Sugar Scrub with you. I’d love to hear what gift you would give along with a 47 cent card from Hallmark.
I love this idea! It’s so affordable yet practical and an awesome gift that I’m sure any woman would totally appreciate! #client
I want to make this for myself! Who knew it was so easy?!
That scrub looks AMAZING! Totally going to try making some!
Question do you need to use the coconut oil that is unrefined as well as organic….Sam’s club sell two kinds the organic unrefined is a bit more expensive they are both good quality….however the one is good because you eat it….soooo i was just wondering if it mattered…..
Hi Pat!
I happened to use organic refined coconut oil as that is what we purchase (I have no idea why!). I’m sure you could substitute with another type of oil, too – like extra virgin olive oil – whatever you have on hand should work. You may need to adjust the amount of sugar you’re using to achieve the same consistency.
Have a great weekend!
Is there an expiration time with this scrub?
Hi! It should keep well for about one month – if you don’t use it all by then! Enjoy!
Does it need to be refrigerated?!
Hi Erin, It doesn’t need to be refrigerated. Enjoy!
I would wish for a friend like u.I went to DOD department of defense military schools in Europe once u move away it’s hard to find yr friends again u gain new ones at next place u are sent too.
That’s so sweet! And I agree, moving around does make it hard to stay connected to friends. It’s hard work, but so worth it!
could you use this as a face scrub too or is the scrub best for hands only?
Hi! I think the sugar might be a bit too harsh for the thinner skin on your face. It does work great on feet, though! If you wanted to use it for a facial scrub, look for superfine sugar – it’s white sugar that has been ground to a very fine grain. Good luck!
Does it need to be refrigerated? How long will it last?
Hi! It does not need to be refrigerated and should last about one month. Enjoy!
I use honey and coconut oil to wash my face. Once or twice a week I add baking soda for an exfoliant. Try that.
Can you use orange instead of lemon?
Yes, you can substitute orange for lemon!
I’ve wanted to try making a sugar scrub for awhile now, I will definitely be trying it out now! Thanks for sharing at the Creative Inspiration party, hope to see you again this week!
P.S. Is that a fiesta dish I spy?
It is Fiesta! I love the bright colors. Next on my wishlist is yellow!
