Valentine’s Day is coming up. You may want to impress that special someone in your life and would like to do something different. However, with a thin bank account, you also need to take into consideration the cost of whatever date you plan. The first thing to do is to think about what your date likes to do and plan the date around one of those likes.
Take a nature walk
If your date likes to hike, plan the date around walking or hiking. Create a map of places that reveal the beauty of creation in nature or take your date to places that have special meaning for the two of you. At each planned location, give your date a small token of your affection. This might be a framed picture of the two of you, a heart cut from construction paper with a poem or words from the heart written on it or chocolate. Pack a picnic lunch to share at the end of the walk or hike.
Make an Album
On Valentine’s Day, take lots of pictures of you and that special person in memorable and fun locations. Also include other pictures. Together, upload and print out the pictures. Using the pictures, create a picture album that shares your times together. Add comments about event, time and location for each picture. Include a front page revealing your feelings and, when finished, present the album to your date. Instead of an album, create a collage on poster board.
Stay in
Don’t spend lots of money on a dinner out. Make dinner at your home. If your date isn’t comfortable in the kitchen, create a menu and fix everything ahead of time. Lay out your best dinnerware on the table and add a scented candle or two as part of a centerpiece. Sprinkle little candy hearts around the candle. Lower the lights and play music that is has meaning to the two of you or that you know you date enjoys. Keep the volume low. When your date arrives, seat your date formally and serve your date as though your date is the most important person in the world. Serve a cake topped with frosting and red hearts.
Movie, Cookies and Sharing
Rent a movie your date enjoys. As you watch the movie, eat sandwiches, popcorn and pop. Finish up the evening by baking cookies together and decorating them with Valentine’s Day themed icons or greetings such as “B my Valentine.” Eat the cookies or eat some and share others. Package cookies so they won’t break. You and your date deliver the cookies to an elderly person or someone in the hospital.
Make your inexpensive Valentine’s Day memorable with thought and creativity.
