As you look back at your behavior in relationships, when do you think you finally matured? When did you first experience mature love?
For me, mature love is true love. It means loving unconditionally and being accepting of your partner always. When I think back to the relationships that I had in my early twenties, I was very immature and self-focused. Things needed to be my way, perhaps I was a bit controlling, bratty and a bit mean. But, I was growing and struggling to find my way in the world.
As I got older, I realized what types of behaviors weren’t acceptable to me. I removed those people from my life. Also, I changed my own behaviors to reflect what I wanted out of life. Out with the negative, in with the positive. I’m so happy that I did that, because The Texan came into my life shortly after that.
Of course there are days when The Texan and I don’t see eye to eye on every issue, but those days are far and few between. We work together and support each other in every way that we can. We’re both adults and we’re both respectful.
Having a mature relationship – and mature love – comes from respect of oneself and others. You need to decide what is important to you, what you will tolerate and what you won’t. Once you figure that out, you open your world to so many opportunities, experiences, and people.
How old were you when you discovered the importance of mature love?
it wasnt untill i was 28 actually. just a few years go i understood the meaning of mature love
It takes a while to grow up and appreciate others, don’t you think!?
Have a great weekend!
Hubby and I married when we were 22 and totally not mature. I think maturing for us came after having kids and even within the past year of just enduring things and getting a swift kick from God himself. ha! But, I wouldn’t trade any of it…sometimes you have to go through the bad to get to the good.
That’s true – and I think maturity comes with age and your life’s experiences!
Have a fun weekend!
I always knew. I never dated in high school or in college. My first boyfriend turned into my husband. Some may find that boring, but I find it very very special. Sometimes you get one chance to truly love a person. Mature love is not about sex. It’s about being able to sit together at a table, not talk, and still be okay. It’s about working together through the toughest times in your life. It’s about being one during the money troubles, mistakes and celebrations.
Thanks for this post!
It’s not boring – it’s wonderful! You’re so fortunate not to go through all of the drama and heartache to find your soul mate. You are truly blessed.
Have a wonderful weekend!
I’m not totally sure that I have. I have been in my current relationship for 7 years now though…and we get along really well most of the time. So maybe I have. It didn’t happen till I was in my 40’s though. Which I guess means I’m a really late bloomer.
But…better late than never!!
I believe that everyone comes into our lives because we need them for something at that time. All of your past relationships have made you the person you are today!
Have a great weekend!
I think at 26 I am just starting to find mature love. I also think that finding true love can help in this process of becoming more mature in relationships and life.
I really learned what mature love was when I met my now-husband. I was 26 at the time and had just gotten out of a bad relationship, that I thought was love at the time.
I got married at 26 years old. I knew before then what mature love was. I just wasn’t willing to settle for anything less.
That’s wonderful! How many years have you been married?
We will be celebrating our 24th anniversary this month. Best 24 years ever! 🙂
Happy 24th! Here’s to many more!
