Back in January I started talking about my one little word. About what I was going to do to be more present in my life, The Texan’s life, and The Boy’s life.
Here we are just a month later and I can already feel the difference. As I focus on being more present, I notice that I have been more engaged with activities and projects. Little things that would have annoyed me {like a request for a glass of milk the second I sit down) aren’t so bothersome. I am reminding myself that every moment – no matter how insignificant it seems – is precious and needs to be enjoyed.
Ali Edwards’ One Little Word class is great fun, too. It drives you to think, to create, and to explore what is going on with you and your life. Whatever word you choose, the class is great for helping you to maintain focus and remain excited about the project. It’s never to late to decide what you want your year to look like.
Yesterday I shared my February photo collage. We had a busy month, and I was able to enjoy the fun! Of course I still want to photograph every little detail. Every. Single One. I don’t want to miss anything. I have this overwhelming desire to record it all. But, I realize that doing that means that I am not present. If you’re behind the lens, you aren’t really there experiencing the moment, are you?
While I focus on being present, I am also capturing my family’s story using the digital Project Life kit designed by Becky Higgins. I was struggling at first with how to layout the pages to best share our story, but I found a great Photoshop class on Jessica Sprague’s website that is designed specifically for the digital Project Life person! Hooray. As I move through the course, and create my pages I am going to be sharing them with you. I’m super excited about this because it’s something that I’ve wanted to do for a long time. It looks much nicer than just dumping a bunch of photos into a pre-made template on some website!
Wish me luck as I continue on my journey to being present during the month of March!

Good luck, Emily! I have been decreasing my work/computer time this year, and I can tell a difference too. Not only am I getting more time with my family, I am also sleeping better!
Thanks so much Kecia! My downfall right now is the photo taking. I love this new-to-me Project Life approach to documenting my family’s story, but I sometimes “overshoot” with the camera.
I wish that I could say that I am sleeping better, but maybe next month! 🙂
