Online marketing is an amazing opportunity for a small business owner to showcase their products or services. The great thing about online marketing is that it is affordable and easy to maintain.
Think of your website as your “front porch” on the internet. It should be welcoming and inviting. If your home page – or the landing page – is full of clutter or appears disorganized, that will turn away potential customers in the same way that an overflowing trash can near the front door of an actual business would. Keep your landing page clean.
As we think about how you engage your customers, it is important to reach out for those whom you do not have an established relationship with. It’s important that your Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is appropriately designed. Choose the keywords that best describe your business and enter those as your Meta Tags. Meta Tags – or keywords – help people find you through web searches. Think of meta tags as categories in a telephone book. If you are a home builder and offer landscaping services, you’d want to list your company under “Home Builders” and under “Landscaping” in the telephone book – do the same on the internet.
Another great way to reach out to your existing customer base is to create an email newsletter and encourage them to sign up. {NEVER sign someone up for your newsletter without their permission. Spam isn’t good!} Your newsletter will keep them up to date with what’s happening at your business. If you operate a restaurant, an email newsletter is an affordable way to let your guests know about current promotions and discounts. To keep them signed up, offer the subscribers a “freebie” on occasion. For a restaurant, it could be a coupon. For a photographer, it could be a free screensaver download.
Always be on the lookout for ways to grow your business without spending a lot of money.

I’ve never added Meta tags because I didn’t know what it meant. I’m fairly new to blogging so I’m learning as I go. So much to learn!
