When planning your trip to Cape Cod, be sure to set aside some time for a day hiking trip. Packing for a day hiking trip is easier than you think and requires minimal advance preparation. Follow my tips below so you don’t forget anything while packing for a day hiking trip.
I used to think that a day hiking trip involved heading to the mountains while wearing heavy boots and carrying a walking stick. Part of Massachusetts, Cape Cod is a beautiful, hook-shaped peninsula poking out into the Atlantic Ocean with more than it’s fair share of beautiful trails perfect for a day hiking trip.
Across the 339 square miles, you’ll find gorgeous sandy beaches, cranberry bogs, lighthouses, and kettle ponds. To the surprise of many visitors, tucked away in many of the small towns that make up Cape Cod, are beautiful hiking trails suited for all skill levels. A day hiking trip is the best way to spend a day on Cape Cod when you really want to get away from it all.
When planning your trip to Cape Cod, be sure to set aside some time for a day hiking trip. With so much beautiful scenery, it would be a shame for you to miss out. Follow my tips below so you don’t forget anything, especially SToK™ 48 oz Cold Brew Coffee, while packing for a day hiking trip.
Packing for a Day Hiking Trip
When heading out for a day hiking trip, it’s important to pack enough supplies to get you through the day. I like to use a lightweight backpack with lots of pockets. If you happen to travel to Cape Cod by plane, look for a backpack that is designed to be self-storing, or use your backpack as your carry-on luggage. For day hiking trips, I take the following items in my backpack:
Navigation While many of the trails on Cape Cod are well marked, there is always the chance you could stray from the trail. Bring along a compass, trail provided map, or utilize the GPS map on your smart phone.
Smart Phone and Battery Case As much as I like to say I hike totally unplugged, I do not. I bring my cell phone just in case of an emergency. A full charged battery case is important, too. Before heading out on your day hiking trip, be sure to take a photo of the sign at the trail head. If emergency responders need to find you, having this information will help you to communicate your location to them.
Camera It is so easy to whip out the smart phone cameras these days, but a day hiking trip on Cape Cod features such beautiful scenery that you will regret NOT bringing your camera.
Sun Protection Often times we think of sun protection as sunscreen only. While that is a key component and a must-have, sun protection is so much more. You also need a quality lip balm with SPF and you should invest in a good pair of polarized sunglasses.
First Aid Kit You don’t need to purchase something fancy, it is easy to make your own First Aid Kit. Make your own kit by slipping a few bandages, antibacterial ointment, alcohol pads, and pain relievers into a ziptop bag. If you want to be extra cautious, add gauze and antihistamines.
Nutrition and Hydration Despite the lack of mountainous terrain, hiking along the trails of Cape Cod is hard work. It’s easy to build up an appetite quickly. In my backpack, I slip in a banana, homemade trail mix, nuts, and a simple PB&J sandwich. I also pack a refillable water bottle and sip it throughout the day hike.
Rewarding Treat Hiking is fun and somewhat tiresome. And, since we are being perfectly honest here, it can make me a bit cranky. So, I like to bring along SToK™ 48 oz Cold Brew Coffee to enjoy when we stop for lunch. I choose SToK™ Unsweet Cold Brew Coffee because it is slow-brewed, pure coffee with no weird ingredients. SToK™ Unsweet Cold Brew Coffee is the perfect beverage to get you moving and keep you going throughout the day hike. It’s simple, yet flavorful.
With many scenic overlooks, picnic areas, and open grassy fields, you will be able to easily find a place to stop for lunch and enjoy your SToK™ Unsweet Cold Brew Coffee.
SToK™ 48 oz Cold Brew Coffee can be picked up in the refrigerated section of your neighborhood Walmart. Walmart makes it easy to stock up on everything you need for a day hiking trip.
