With the holiday season upon us, one of my goals is to reinforce how important family is; especially since most of our family lives thousands of miles away. The Boy is growing up without any cousins, and I want him to know that despite the miles that separate us, family should always come first. After hearing all about , I thought it would be a nice idea to visit our local Walmart and pick up some of the merchandise to send off to The Boy’s favorite cousin down in sunny Florida.
When The Texan and I walked in, we spied the Subway Fresh Fit for Kids meals and noticed that you would receive a free Olaf keychain with your meal! {He’s so cute, don’t you think?} Although our Subway at Walmart location was sold out of the cute reusable lunch bags, we still picked up a quick lunch for The Boy. {Thankfully he was at school with another lunch because The Texan and I ate this one in the car. No lie.}
According to the employee, the Walmart toys have been flying off the shelves! The FROZEN toys have been a favorite with everyone. We were fortunate to find the book, the complete toy figure set, and a stuffed Sven – who makes a sound, but I haven’t figured out what sound a reindeer actually makes, it’s sort of a grunt sort of a moan? The stuffed Sven is my favorite, I love how soft he is!
With the limited selection of toys at the store, I knew that I wanted to add a little bit more to our gift. Because it is Christmas, I thought making an personalized ornament would be fun!
I picked up a few clear plastic ornaments from my local craft store, gathered my craft paint and we got to work. This craft is perfect for kids of all ages and they’ll love creating something on their own.
Choosing the paint color was the most difficult part, once you decide on a paint color, squirt a bit into your ornament. I like to use multiple colors to give it a swirling effect reminiscent of glass ornaments.
After putting your paint into the ornaments, place them into a paper cup to allow the excess paint to drain out.
Once the extra paint has drained and your ornaments are dry, replace the cap and tie a ribbon or attach an ornament hanger to the loop. Using a permanent marker, personalize the ornament with your family member’s name. If you’d like, add the year to the reverse side.
Our gifts are on the way to that favorite cousin. I know she’ll love the book and the toys, but I hope she’ll cherish the ornament for years to come!
How are you teaching your children about the importance of family?

Love this Emily!! My son could do this, and he probably wouldn’t lose attention! We try to spend quality time together daily, and thank God for family every night in prayers.
