If you’ve been reading my blog for a while, then you may recall that we lived in the greater Orlando area for a few years prior to relocating to Cape Cod. Living in a resort/vacation community must be our thing! But now, here we are planning a family vacation to Orlando.
We loved many things about living in Orlando and will be returning soon for a family vacation. Our last few trips to Florida have been to south Florida, where The Texan’s parents and two out of three siblings live. This trip will be a wonderful time because we’ll get to catch up with old friends and visit with The Texan’s sister, her husband and their two small kiddos! I’m excited for The Boy to have a chance to get to know his cousins.
I don’t recall spending too many nights in a hotel while we lived there, isn’t that weird? You would think that with the inventory of hotel rooms, we would’ve taken advantage of an overnight getaway. Wait – we lived there before The Boy was born, so we didn’t NEED a getaway! We’ll be looking for affordable packages for Orlando hotels, I’d like to stay for ten days spending about four at the theme parks and the other six just vegging out enjoying the warm Florida sunshine.
As I recall from our time living there, the best time to visit is between now and Thanksgiving. The weather is beautiful – if you don’t mind risking the chance of running into a possible hurricane – and the crowds in the theme parks are nearly non-existent. I think it would be nice to stay in a Disney World hotel for the days we go to their theme parks. It wouldn’t bother me to move to another hotel for the remainder of the trip.
Once we get the theme parks out of the way, I’ll be looking forward to enjoying quite time with The Texan and The Boy. Who knows, maybe we’ll be lucky enough to have The Texan’s sister take The Boy overnight so we can have a vacation inside of our vacation!

Hi Emily. Thanks for stopping by my blog. I appreciate it! This Thanksgiving, we are finally taking our kids to Disney. It will be their and my husband’s first time. I can’t wait to see how they respond. I hope you, The Texan (I was born in Houston), and The Boy enjoy your time there, too. 🙂

Thanks for the great Orlando info! One of our favorite family friendly resorts in Florida is PGA resort. Such a great hotel to visit with the whole family!

We’re planning a trip back to Florida in October and I’m a little nervous about it still being hurricane season but hopeful it’ll still be beach weather. Orlando is going to be so much for you guys!

I just visited Orlando for my first time last month. I LOVED it way more than I thought I would. It’s tropical, bustling with life, and just all around a fun city. My favorite part was Universal Studios. Have fun!
