Laundry has to be one of the most dreaded household chores. It takes a long time – and it’s never actually done. Over the winter, I found myself falling behind on laundry. {Please tell me that I’m not alone!} After changing up my laundry strategy, I’ve found these five tips to staying ahead of laundry. I hope they work as well for you!
Do Laundry Every Day. Commit to washing, drying, folding and putting away one load of laundry each day. If you’re like me, you like checking things off your list – and this is a sure fire way to get at least ONE check mark daily.
Pre-Sort Laundry. Whites. Darks. Colors. While you may think you don’t have space, a laundry sorter is a great time saver. Streamlining this part of the laundry process gives you a jump start on the chore. Keep your laundry sorter in the bathroom or bedroom so the clothing has a better chance of getting in the appropriate bin.
Change Bed Linens Weekly. Wash your sheets and pillow in warm water and always have a back up set ready to go. Especially for your children’s beds.
Take Care of Your Machines. Keep your washing machine clean by following the manufacturers recommended cleaning instructions. We clean ours monthly using a high-efficiency washing machine cleaner. Vacuum out your dryer hoses regularly and clean the lint filter after each load.
Use a gentle detergent for all of your laundry. We use detergent for sensitive skin, all free clear. I like it because it is gentle on sensitive skin, yet tough on stains. all free clear is also 100% hypoallergenic.
