College. Ah, that four year block of life where you live in a new city, with new people, and get your share of germs. When I was in college with these lovely ladies, the Clorox Disinfecting Wipe hadn’t been invented yet. {Yes. I am that old.} With everyone adjusting to a new lifestyle (no parents to enforce early bedtime coupled with a diet rich in tater tots, pizza, and cheap beverages) it is easy to see why immune systems are so compromised on college campuses.
I know that my girls and I caught every germs that was out there. Each fall, bronchitis would hit our sorority. It seemed to last for three months from the time the first girl caught it until the last girl was finally healthy again. If it wasn’t your turn to be sick, you’d help the others out by smuggling food out of the cafeteria or bringing them cold medicine. One thing I don’t recall doing is cleaning for any of my sorority sisters. Yet after college, and after we’d all gone our separate ways, they still came to my wedding. I guess they weren’t that upset with me for not cleaning up after them! {Those two, love them so much!}
We didn’t think too much about diet and exercise back then, but both are super important to staying healthy in college. Just like drinking water, cleaning frequently, and getting a lot of rest!
With my younger sister finishing up {what my dad hopes is} her final semester in college, she continues to catch every cold and virus that moves through her campus. She’s like a germ magnet! In fact, just last week, she was so sick that she went to the hospital. Thankfully, she’s on the mend now. It got me thinking that maybe she could use a few tips and items to help her stay healthy this upcoming cold and flu season.
I hit my favorite store, Amazon.com, to create an #AmazonWishList of items that will help her stay healthy this semester. Because germs are everywhere, I knew she needed those Clorox Disinfecting Wipes. Did you know that Clorox Disinfecting Wipes kill 99.9% of viruses and bacteria (including Human Coronavirus and Influenza A2), kills cold and flu viruses, E. Coli, Salmonella, Staph, and Strep. I love the new and improved packaging which contains value pack of three 75 count easy-to-open canisters of disinfecting wipes in 2 scents: 2 Citrus Blend, 1 Fresh Scent. I figured she could also use the powerful cleaning technology to fight kitchen grease (assuming she’s cooking!) and soap scum in the bathroom.
As a rule, people do not drink enough water. I know that my sister spends most of her time dehydrated; this is supported by her numerous kidney stones. I think a Brita pitcher is just what she needs. Currently, Amazon is offering $2 off the purchase of a 10-cup water filtration pitcher. This pitcher is designed with an easy-fill lid, comfort grip handle and filter reduces chlorine taste and odor, zinc taste, copper, mercury and cadmium which is often found in tap water. The included filter can replace 300 standard 16.9 ounce water bottles, which by my calculations should last her nearly 3 months if she’s drinking the recommended 64 ounces of water per day. She won’t have to guess, though. Brita thought of everything: the electronic indicator tracks when to change the water filter.
Let’s talk a bit more about the AWESOME Amazon Wish List for a bit. It’s similar to the #AmazonCart feature that I told you about a few months ago, because you’re able to add items to your #AmazonWishList from your Twitter account. If you’re like me, and spend a fair amount of time on Twitter, this is such a fantastic way to save items you want to buy for others (or yourself!) to your Amazon account.
Clear your calendar for next Wednesday, October 15 at 11am EST for the first ever #AmazonWishList Social Shopping Party! During this one hour party, you’ll more about just how easy it is to add items to your Amazon Wish List without leaving Twitter. The generous folks from Amazon are offering special promotions during the hour on the featured products purchased using the #AmazonWishList feature. This includes $1 off all featured products that are purchased during the party using #AmazonWishList and #AmazonHasIt – that includes the Clorox Disinfecting Wipes! Exciting right? Well, they’ll also be giving away 10 Kindles during the party.
Can’t wait for the party? Follow the #AmazonWishList #AmazonHasIt conversation on Twitter today!

These are some great tips! I remember getting really sick a few times in college. It’s a tough thing to get used to without your mom there to take care of you!
