Earlier this week the humidity in our area was out of control. It reminded me of living in Florida. Only in Florida we were fortunate to have central air. Central air on Cape Cod is a new concept, and one that isn’t in our home. We’re forced to rely on old fashioned methods to beat the heat.
One thing we do is drink cold beverages. My favorite is freshly brewed iced tea. Now brewing iced tea on an already hot day is not fun, so when I discovered Lipton’s Pure Leaf Iced Tea I couldn’t wait to give it a try! Pure Leaf is real brewed tea made from all-natural ingredients without the use of preservatives!
The leaves are selected from China, India, Africa and South America by the Pure Leaf’s Master Tea Blenders. I was even more eager to try them when I learned that they are Rainforest Alliance Certified for sourcing their tea sustainably. The square packaging is also lightweight and provides a high pallet efficiency – which means lighter loads and less fuel used to deliver it to your store!
We’ve been growing our mint this year, which tastes great in Mojitos so I decided to make a Derby Day Tea-Lep using the mint and the Pure Leaf Sweet Iced Tea. I found the recipe on the Pure Leaf Facebook recipe tab.
The recipe called for 3 ounces of Pure Leaf Sweetened Iced Tea, 3 lemon slices, 6 large mint leaves and 1 ounce of Kentucky bourbon, if you wish.
I muddled the fresh mint in a highball glass, added two of the lemon slices and filled the glass with ice. Then I added the Pure Leaf Sweet Iced Tea and garnished with the remaining lemon slice.
It was refreshing, with just the right amount of mint, lemon and tea flavors.

I love drinking iced tea in the summer! I will have to look into Pure Leaf!
I haven’t tried this tea yet, but it sounds good to me! I hate the ones where you can tell it’s not made with brewed tea, but some kind of tea-flavored powder–yuck!
Oh yum, the Derby Day Tea-Lep sounds delightful! I have been using Liptons Cold Brew Tea Bags for my ice tea, but will have to try Liptons Pure Leaf out.
Look delicious! Iced tea is one of my staples for the summer! Uusually I just throw some green tea in a container and let it sit outside for a bit. This sounds great I will have to try some!
